Warrawong offers a unique opportunity to get amongst the Australian bush and wildlife in a protected habitat. With over 100 species of birds and many native mammals, Warrawong Wildlife Park is a great day out and an educational one. Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary was first established in 1969 when dairy land was revegetated with native trees and shrubs to attract native animals and birds. In 1982 the 35 acres was enclosed with feral-proof fencing. Once the fence was completed, the bird population flourished and the release of many native animals began. Today, Warrawong is home to 100 species of birds and many native mammals, most of which are nocturnal. Warrawong offers a unique opportunity to get amongst the Australian bush and wildlife in a protected habitat. Carrick Hill is fortunate in being one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents almost completely intact and its grounds undiminished.

The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden overlooking the Piccadilly Valley features displays of cool temperate plants, which thrive on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty. The sweet scented ATCO Heritage Rose Garden, featuring both modern and old-fashioned roses is particularly popular. Several picturesque walking trails take you up and down the gardens seven valleys, including the Fern Gully - home to one of the richest collections of ferns in Australia. Old Government House lies in the heart of Belair National Park, 11 kilometres south of Adelaide. It was built on the Government Farm as South Australia's first official vice-regal summer cottage residence (1860-1880), and was used by some of the early governors of South Australia; MacDonnell (1855-62) and Daly (1862-68). The Old Government House buildings now reflect how the wealthy of the Victorian era lived, with the main house displaying the style and accoutrements of the well-to-do and the servants' quarters the more modest furnishings of a working family. Featuring an elegant terrace and South Australia's first indoor plunge pool it stands as an excellent example of Victorian-style architecture. Visitors can also take a leisurely stroll through the one-acre garden; featuring a collection of cottage plants and flowers as cultivated in Victorian times, heritage roses and mature trees. The buildings are open on Sundays and public holidays from 1pm to 4pm. Guides from the 'Friends of Old Government House' conduct tours and show the different styles and furnishings in each building and share fascinating stories about this grand residence. A very small winery in the European mould established in 1982. The fine elegant wines, plus bigger bodied wines made for the second label, Galah, are available for tasting at the friendly and bucolic cellar door where the winemaker is often in attendance. Ashton Hills Vineyard lies just below the summit of Mount Lofty on a ridge top overlooking the Piccadilly Valley. The wines reflect the regions cool and humid climate and have fine flavours with a lingering finish. The cellar door opened in 1991. Specialising in dry white and red table wines and sparkling wines. Manyara Vineyard is a small family vineyard located in Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills where the extended Lipman family concentrate on growing grapes of the highest quality. The vines are lovingly tended and carefully managed through hand pruning, shoot and bunch thinning to produce premium wines with distinctive fruit character. Wines available include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and the Manyara red wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The 2011 Pinot Noir will be available early in 2012.

You are encouraged to purchase a tasting flight of four different wines from the Shaw and Smith range complemented by a specially chosen cheese plate at a cost of AUD15.00 per person. Each tasting flight comes with its own tasting mat allowing you to learn the secrets of the wine while you sip away on the terrace or in the cooler months, on the lounge by the fire.
