The Cardwell Pioneer Tours are currently operating every Monday and Thursday morning from 10am at the Visitor Information and Heritage Centre located in Cardwell. The tour incorporates all the buildings in the historic precinct and takes visitors on a fascinating journey of the area’s colourful history as they move through each building. The tour begins at the old Bush Telegraph building which was the Telegraph and Post Office and explains how Cardwell was founded in 1864 as the first port in North Queensland. Over in the Courthouse visitors can gain an understanding of the old judicial system. Several interesting items are on display including the original straight-jackets used in Tully to restrain the more energetic offenders. The old lock-up building was still in use during the1980s at the Cardwell Police Station. The final building is the old Shire Hall which the community used for a multitude of purposes included balls and other formal social events. The tour concludes on the balcony of the Visitor Information Centre where visitors can enjoy a complementary Devonshire Tea while taking in one of the best views in North Queensland overlooking Hinchinbrook Island, Gould Island and the Family Islands ...

The team have been planning for this historical 250th commemorative event for many years and are saddened that their efforts will not come to fruition this year. However all is not lost, the team have started planning the 2021 event and already confirmed the dates 21 to 23 May 2021 for the official 1770 Festival weekend. On the weekend closest to 23 and 24 May every year is the 1770 FESTIVAL. Why? Well, this is when the 'HMB Endeavour' anchored in Bustard Bay, Queensland, at what is now the Town of 1770. There will be Cook's landing re-enactment on the 1770 Foreshore; indigenous performances; Street Parade of themed floats; live music; fireworks; kids amusements; another fun Vanilla Slice War; food, retail and lifestyle stalls; fashion parade; interactive demonstrations and workshops for all ages. This is a great two-day community event for the whole family! Selling a wide range of cut and uncut gemstones, jewellery, semi-precious gemstones, beads, pearls, fossils, opals, crystal and mineral specimens from all over the world. Carvings from precious and semi-precious stones are great for gifts, including Christmas presents. All items are for sale. Gemstone testing/identification will again be available. This service, available to the public for a gold coin donation, is provided by a member of the Gemmological Association of Australia. The kids will love the Fossicking for Children trailer. Missing a gemstone in your jewellery? Bring it along and find a matching gemstone. Create your own unique piece of jewellery: purchase a setting and select your favourite gemstone. Have it set before you leave. Raffle tickets for three fabulous jewellery prizes will be on sale; also hourly lucky door prizes. Inside the hall, around 28 gem traders from Central Queensland in the north, to Sydney in the south put together this two-day spectacle. Around 30 traders will sell their merchandise outside the hall. Catering provided by a local Toowoomba business....

The Festival of Hell celebrates 30 years in 2021 and is a weekend encompassing the the Hell of the West Triathlon and the GTH+ Super Saturday. Described as Queensland's iconic long course triathlon event, HOTW is the "toughest (and oldest) triathlons in Queensland" consisting of a 2 kilometre swim in the mighty Macintyre River, 80 kilometre "dead flat" cycle along the Barwon Highway heading west and 20 kilometre 'hot as hell' run along the picturesque Macintyre River. Temperatures of up to 38 degrees can be expected at this time of year and this heat is what the athletes love. Many athletes use the triathlon as part of their Ironman training sessions, some athletes use it as their first long course triathlon and many athletes compete as part of a team, just to add to the spirit of sportsmanship. It's a 'bucket list' triathlon for all triathletes world-wide. 2021 sees the continuance of the GTH+ Super Saturday events: Hell Kids Triathlon. Firestarter Triathlon (enticer). 5 and 10 kilometre Gundy Inferno Charity Runs.
