Warrawong offers a unique opportunity to get amongst the Australian bush and wildlife in a protected habitat. With over 100 species of birds and many native mammals, Warrawong Wildlife Park is a great day out and an educational one. Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary was first established in 1969 when dairy land was revegetated with native trees and shrubs to attract native animals and birds. In 1982 the 35 acres was enclosed with feral-proof fencing. Once the fence was completed, the bird population flourished and the release of many native animals began. Today, Warrawong is home to 100 species of birds and many native mammals, most of which are nocturnal. Warrawong offers a unique opportunity to get amongst the Australian bush and wildlife in a protected habitat. This wildlife park in Adelaide is only 20 minutes from the city, so make a trip to Warrawong, one of your things to do! Warrawong means: water on the side of the hill, so don\\'t expect anything but a good incline to descend and come back up....

Carrick Hill is fortunate in being one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents almost completely intact and its grounds undiminished.

The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden overlooking the Piccadilly Valley features displays of cool temperate plants, which thrive on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty. Spring and autumn in the Garden are both magnificent, with stunning mass displays of magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias and roses adding a splash of colour to the gardens. The sweet scented ATCO Heritage Rose Garden, featuring both modern and old-fashioned roses is particularly popular. Several picturesque walking trails take you up and down the gardens seven valleys, including the Fern Gully - home to one of the richest collections of ferns in Australia. The Bank SA Nature Trail is wonderful at all times of the year allowing visitors to experience the diversity of original plants in the Garden. Old Government House lies in the heart of Belair National Park, 11 kilometres south of Adelaide. It was built on the Government Farm as South Australia's first official vice-regal summer cottage residence (1860-1880), and was used by some of the early governors of South Australia; MacDonnell (1855-62) and Daly (1862-68). The Old Government House buildings now reflect how the wealthy of the Victorian era lived, with the main house displaying the style and accoutrements of the well-to-do and the servants' quarters the more modest furnishings of a working family. Featuring an elegant terrace and South Australia's first indoor plunge pool it stands as an excellent example of Victorian-style architecture. Visitors can also take a leisurely stroll through the one-acre garden; featuring a collection of cottage plants and flowers as cultivated in Victorian times, heritage roses and mature trees. The buildings are open on Sundays and public holidays from 1pm to 4pm. Guides from the 'Friends of Old Government House' conduct tours and show the different styles and furnishings in each building and share fascinating stories about this grand residence. A very small winery in the European mould established in 1982. The fine elegant wines, plus bigger bodied wines made for the second label, Galah, are available for tasting at the friendly and bucolic cellar door where the winemaker is often in attendance. Ashton Hills Vineyard lies just below the summit of Mount Lofty on a ridge top overlooking the Piccadilly Valley. The wines reflect the regions cool and humid climate and have fine flavours with a lingering finish. The cellar door opened in 1991. Specialising in dry white and red table wines and sparkling wines. Grapes grown include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling.
