Founded in 1953, the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) is Australia's oldest professional theatre company, producing up to 12 plays in a subscription season.
MTC productions appear in two venues in the Southbank Theatre: the 500-seat Sumner and the Lawler theatres. Several function rooms are available for hire, and the Script Bar and Bistro is on-site.
Several large-scale productions are staged each season in the 880-seat Playhouse at nearby Arts Centre Melbourne, with smaller-scale MTC works being hosted in the Arts Centre's Fairfax Studio.
Victoria's premier theatre company and one of the major performing arts companies in Australia, MTC also runs education and studio programs.
Malthouse Theatre is dedicated to extending the boundaries of the performing arts, nurturing the production of contemporary Australian theatre.
A theatre of the senses, Malthouse productions investigate what it is to be Australian and a citizen of the world, and offer an ever-evolving array of theatrical experiences.
The State Theatre is Arts Centre Melbourne's premier theatre, staging a range of events from ballet and opera to Broadway musicals and grand opera.

Founded in 1962, The Australian Ballet is one of the country's flagship arts companies. Each year the company performs classical and contemporary works by major Australian and international choreographers, and new commissions that explore the development and future of this dynamic art form. The 2015 season ‘A Year of Beauty’ promises to bring elements of beauty, magic and romance to the stage. There are happy endings for Cinderella and her Prince, and for the fairies and immortals in Frederick Ashton’s, The Dream. There is redemption through tragedy for Siegfried and Odette, Albrecht and Giselle. There is also the sharp-edged, modern beauty of Balanchine and Stravinsky, Tharp and Glass, and a new work by Tim Harbour, each capturing the contemporary splendour of its time. Finally Artistic Director David McAllister brings to life the much-anticipated world premiere of his new production The Sleeping Beauty- set to be the crowning moment of the year.
