Bonorong is a Sanctuary for wildlife run by a passionate team of like-minded people. We're a social enterprise: a little business with a big heart.
Just 30 minutes north of Hobart's CBD, we are home to many animals, including wombats, koalas, Tasmanian devils, birds, quolls and more. We also have free-roaming kangaroos who are always keen for a good scratch on the chest and some gentle hand feeding (roo food included with entry).
A visit to Bonorong is not complete without joining one of our daily guided tours. These tours are free with entry and give you the opportunity to meet some of our most popular locals: the wombats, devils and koalas. You will hear little-known facts and stories of the wildlife in our care.
Tour groups, school groups and after-school groups can all be catered for with private tours and more. We have a Food Hut onsite, making it a great stop for lunch with 100% plant-based meals.
Bonorong is easily accessible by car, with free parking onsite.
The Bagdad Public Golf Course is a nine-hole country course north of Hobart. Bagdad is a small rural community, 30 minutes' drive from Hobart's city centre (40 kilometres/25 miles). The Bagdad Public Golf Course has a peaceful, rural atmosphere and features watered, grass greens with the longest hole measuring 1,718 metres (5,636 feet). You can try you luck in the annual Bagdad Open golf tournament which is played here each spring (September/October). The Tasmanian town of Bagdad was named from the classic literary work 'Arabian Nights' by explorer Hugh Germain. The well-educated Germain named several Tasmanian locations from this book and from the Bible, both of which he carried with him wherever he went. Lake Tiberius and the township of Jericho are two such locations, just north of Bagdad.
Winstead Vineyard at Bagdad in Tasmania's south produces award-winning wines - rieslings and pinot noir. This 1.2 hectare vineyard is carefully hand-tended, and produces long lived rieslings and exciting pinot noir. Winstead has produced some great wine but unfortunately suffers from the problem of wine shortage. Their gold-medal 1994 pinot noir was a cracker of a wine. Their wines just seem to get better every year and continue to be medal winners. The vineyard is open by appointment only. Mail Order is available.

These finely structured wines have moderate alcohol levels and are especially food compatible. Pages Creek wines are made at Winemaking Tasmania, a modern facility headed by one of Tasmania's most experienced winemakers, using a combination of state-of-the-art equipment and traditional techniques. Wines are matured in the highest quality French oak barrels..
Pages Creek Vineyard is named for the creek that runs through the 20-hectare (50 acre) property. It is the vigneron's vision to produce world-class wine from this single-site vineyard, located in one of Tasmania's premier wine-producing areas.
Morningside Vineyard is located at Tea Tree in southeast Tasmania's Coal River Valley wine region. Tea Tree is a 30-minute drive from Hobart (35 kilometres), a few kilometres from the historic village of Richmond.
Morningside's three hectares (seven acres) of vines were planted in 1980 and the vineyard was the first to be established in the Tea Tree area. The vineyard has consistently produced elegant, age-worthy wines including Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernets - a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The Morningside Vineyard is a family-run operation and all wines are estate-grown and made. Visitors can taste Morningside's range of medal winning cool climate wines at the cellar door by appointment.
This is a truly boutique vineyard, where all the procedures, from growing the grapes to bottling the wine, are carried out on the premises by owners Andrew and Rose-Marie Vasiljuk. Andrew, who has 20 years experience, is the winemaker.
Production from the mountain vineyard of less than a hectare was recently embellished with the purchase of another vineyard at Margate in the Channel. Wine tastings and cellar door dales are available at the Tea Tree vineyard. Varieties include riesling, pinot noir and chardonnay.
