Family owned and operated, Langmeil is believed to be the home of the Barossa and Australia's oldest known surviving vineyard planted to Shiraz in 1843, where the iconic 'Freedom 1843 Shiraz' hails. The Schrapel family have owned and operated Bethany Wines for more than 150 years. The 160 year old Silentium Cellar, once the winery and wheat shed of the Nitschke family is now the home of wine tasting at Moorooroo Park Vineyards. The Barossa Small Winemakers Centre is a showcase for wines by the Barossa's small independent winemakers. These people are the heart and soul of the Barossa, and their wines are rarely found elsewhere. The Centre features wines made by over 20 small producers from the valley. These are mostly handmade wines, produced in very small quantities by growers with small parcels of some of the finest fruit in the Barossa. Chateau Tanunda's relationship with local growers and winemakers harks back to the origins of the Chateau, which was built by a group of Adelaide businessmen keen to capitalize on the local winemaker's skills to meet demand for wine in Europe. Today, the Chateau maintains its links with the growers via the Barossa Small Winemakers Centre, carrying on a century old partnership. The centre is housed in the cellar door at Chateau Tanunda, a few minutes' walk from Tanunda.

Winemaker Rick Glastonbury can often be found in the cellar door at Kabminye Wines talking about his winemaking techniques and experiences making wines with some of the Barossa's more unusual grape varieties. His wife Ingrid's passion is the food of the Barossa, which she serves to those lunching at Krondorf Road Café, set in the cellar door. Her ancestors settled there around 150 years ago, and she likes to think that Johann Christian also appreciated the views of the Barossa ranges wrapping around the cellar door and café, designed by Rick to be eco-friendly and low toxicity. Their daughter Ilona shows her award winning artwork in the gallery upstairs, and son-in-law Craig imparts his passion and considerable knowledge of wine in the cellar door.

Winemaker Charles Melton and his partner Virginia Weckert have specialised in the production of limited release, premium red wines made from Barossa grapes since 1984. It was in the mid 1980's that Charlie and a small band of Barossa winemakers turned their winemaking efforts to what was then considered a couple of unfashionable varieties, Shiraz and Grenache. With these varieties, Charlie built a small range of classic dry reds including a Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvedre blend called the Nine Popes. Initially these wines were styled on those from the Rhone, but are now considered leading examples of the varieties in their own right. However, Charles Melton is not confined to full bodied reds alone. They also produce a light red - The Rose of Virginia, and a unique traditional Australian style Sparkling Red and have added a new member, Sotto di Ferro, which is a Vin Santo style desert wine. These wines exhibit richness and finesse that are the hallmarks of the Barossa's finest wines. They have always attracted national and international recognition. Enduring commitment to dry farmed vineyard and careful crafting of the wine will ensure this continues.

Step back in time with our Coopers while you watch them producing quality hand crafted port and spirit kegs. Our coopers use the age-old authentic techniques and traditional tools of keg making. The Keg Factory uses material from 60 - 80 year old American and French oak port barrels. The old oak gives richness and character to fortified wines. A miniature barrel from The Keg Factory is an authentic piece of bar furniture. The kegs impart the quality of old, matured oak to your Port, Sherry, Muscat or Spirit, speeding up the maturation process, producing mellow beverages. Groups welcome by prior arrangement.

A small boutique producer of dry red and fortified wines, Dutschke Wines concentrates on using grapes grown on the old family block located next to the St. Jakobi Church and from small parcels of fruit taken from growers along Gods Hill Road at Lyndoch. Nearly every grape crushed grows within a three kilometre stretch of dirt south of the winery's front gate. Wayne Dutschke started making wine in 1979 in Australia as well as knocking out a few vintages in Spain and California. In 1990, Wayne formed his own brand called WillowBend producing a blend of Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet. Interest from the United States in 1998 brought about a name change to Dutschke Wines as well as a few new brands - GHR Neighbours Shiraz, St. Jakobi Shiraz and the reserve wine Oscar Semmler Shiraz. Since their first crush in 1990, Dutschke Wines has strived to make affordable wines of the highest quality that show Wayne's expression of the characteristics of that precious patch of dirt from a precious corner of the Barossa Valley. Although production is small, demand for Dutschke Wines continues to be strong in Australia and abroad. Tastings by appointment only.

Situated in the heart of the Barossa, Barossa Valley Brewing is a small craft brewery producing award winning ales. All of our ales are brewed in small batches and are crafted on site. Come taste our award winning Bee Sting, Organic Ale, Blonde, Saison, Canis Majoris or Imperial Milk Stout ales. You can enjoy a tour of our brewery and hear how we produce these fine ales in the Brew House every Saturday and Sunday at 12.30pm. You can then sit in our Beer Garden under the gum trees or by the fire and sample the brews. Tasting boards are available. We also offer local cider on tap and local wines. Our restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Thursday through Sunday. We have a wide selection of beer bites (beer inspired tapas), mains, pizzas and all produce is seasonal and freshly prepared. Visit the dinkum Aussie who has bred his own beautiful dogs and named them Norm's Coolies. Enjoy the love between Norm and his team of faithful companions as they win the hearts of the audience with their willingness to give an all-out performance. With constant training, Norm's dogs are closely in tune with their master and this is evident in their shows. Stroll through more than two hectares of lavender at the multi-award winning Lyndoch Lavender Farm. Touch and smell more than 90 different varieties. This is your opportunity to visit a working lavender farm in beautiful rural surroundings, with an abundance of birds, butterflies and Bearded Dragons in spring and summer. Lyndoch Lavender Farm provides scenic walks and gourmet food tasting. There's a sheltered cafe offering light meals and wine tastings, and a shop with a fantastic range of lavender products - toiletries, household products, plants, and gifts. Be sure to talk to the staff who are always keen to help you learn more about lavender! Schild Estate's vineyards include some of the oldest in Australia including the famous Moorooroo vineyard near Jacobs Creek, which was planted in the 1850s. The Barossa Living Gallery provides a seasonal showcase of local and interstate artists, sculptors, jewellers, glass blowers and ceramicists. Housed in Tanunda's original institute, the historic 1849 bluestone building is home to a collection of individual and contemporary art pieces, ideal for that special gift, a stunning memento of your visit to the Barossa or a delightful indulgence.

Discover the gold mining history of the area on one of the two loop trails. The shorter loop is just over one kilometre long and takes about one hour to complete. The longer loop is about five kilometres and takes three to four hours. Interpretive signs illustrate mining techniques, geology, and treatment of ore and the lifestyles of people who lived there. Fossicking and collecting of rocks are not permitted. Re-enactment Day is at Bowden's Cottage on the fourth Sunday in September where visitors can pan for gold, see mining displays, learn about local history, see blacksmithing demonstrations, old working engines and enjoy Billy tea and damper.

Veritas Winery lies in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Small and unpretentious, this winery has an enviable reputation for the excellence of its products Veritas has now reached a new era. The Barossa Regional Gallery is a high quality art space displaying works from the permanent Barossa Vintage Festival Collection, Community Art in Fabric, regularly changing temporary and touring exhibitions of paintings and sculptures and space for paintings by Barossa artists. The Barossa Regional Gallery is the home of the historical Hill & Son Grand Organ (1875), lovingly restored by the Organ Historical Trust. The gallery also operates a retail service with local handmade crafts, artworks and books available for purchase.

Chateau Tanunda, built in 1890 from bluestone quarried at nearby Bethany, is steeped in history. It's an awe-inspiring place to visit, combining historic winery buildings and a stunning cellar door. The building is surrounded by vineyards and beautifully landscaped gardens, a great place to stop and relax while in the valley. The cellar door offers the chance to try the full Chateau Tanunda wine range while surrounded by a thousand oak barrels of maturing wine. You can also enjoy a platter while you sit outside or by the open fire. Stroll outside the cellar door to the stunning croquet green and have a go at this wonderful old game. Comfortable outdoor seating is available for those of you who prefer to relax away your day. The Liebich family began winemaking at Rowland Flat in 1919, and in 1992, Ron Liebich a third generation winemaker founded Liebichwein producing a variety of reds and whites, plus a unique range of special fortified wines. Popular bulk blends are available for drinking now or for further keg maturation. Ron and Janet Liebich describe themselves as a friendly family business, and indeed visitors can be sure of seeing the winemaker. Only locally grown grapes are used, grown on the heavy red and black soils of these cool Eastern slopes producing wines of high quality with a distinctive "Barossa fruit' character. Bulk port is sold at the cellar door, bring your own container or buy one. Come and see us, and you will discover that the enjoyment of our wine is a product born from the love making it. The Rusden Wines name is synonymous with quality and is unique in the way it operates. The vineyard and winery is 100 per cent family owned and the wines are made on-site. Based in Tanunda, Steinys Traditional Mettwurst has been producing quality mettwurst and smallgoods for well over 20 years. They specialise in traditional fermentation and smoking methods to create a true German style. The original recipe was brought to Australia by early settlers. Steinys Traditional Mettwurst is created using a fermentation process similar to beer, wine and bread, which destroys bacteria but also cures, creating a truly unique flavour. All of Steinys products are very high in protein and low in fat. Steinys use the best quality ingredients - lean beef, pork and quality spices. Smoking products with South Australian Riverland Mallee timber gives them unique flavour and enhances the curing. These are wholesome products, best enjoyed as a snack food, great for lunch boxes or with a glass of wine or beer. A great flavour enhancer to European food dishes, pasta sauce, pizzas and platters.

John Duval Wines is a boutique premium wine producer in the Barossa Valley. For many years as Chief Winemaker at Penfolds, John was responsible for making Penfolds Grange. During this time John oversaw a dynamic period of development and the many awards and accolades for its wines helped establish Penfolds as one of the world's great wine brands. Highlights of his career include; in 1989 receiving Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London, in 1991 and again in 2000, being named Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London. In 2003 John launched his own wine brand. John makes four wines under his range- a white; Plexus White (Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier), and three reds; Plexus Red (Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre), Entity (Shiraz) and Eligo (Shiraz). In 2010 John opened a joint cellar door with six other Barossa winemakers - Artisans of Barossa where you can taste his wines and relax with tasting platters created by Mark McNamara. John Duval Wines will never be another Penfolds - it is simply my chance to express my 30 odd years of premium winemaking knowledge using some of the best fruit in the world.
