Founded in 1840, Sandalford Wines - Swan Valley is one of Australia's oldest, largest and most prestigious privately owned wineries. Sandalford is well known for its award-winning Margaret River wines but also as being a premier tourist attraction located just 20 minutes from Perth city, in the heart of the Swan Valley. Sandalford has gained a strong reputation in wine tourism, earning the 2005 Sir David Brand Award at the West Australian Tourism Awards in 2005 and being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006. Caversham and the Swan Valley are ideal self-drive destinations located 25 minutes by road from Perth, or 15 minutes from the airport. Or take a full or half day boat cruise from Perth's Barrack Street Jetty and wind your way inland along the Swan River. Once you arrive in the valley, an abundance of touring options and more than 150 attractions await. Whether you hit the self-drive Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail or climb aboard a shuttle bus, coach, or even horse-drawn carriage, you can spend the day sampling premium wines, gourmet produce, boutique beers, fine chocolates and other local delights. There are also plenty of walking and cycling trails through the bush and along the river's edge, so get your boots on or hire a bike and enjoy the great outdoors.
