Christ Church

35 Palmer Place, Adelaide City SA 5000

Welcome to the beautiful and historic Christ Church established in the mid nineteenth century on the ridge of Montefiore Hill overlooking the city of Adelaide. The determination of the pioneering church-going residents of North Adelaide to hold services in their own place or worship led the women of the district to start a building fund in 1841, but it was not until the arrival of the first bishop, Doctor Augustus Short, in 1848 that construction work was started. What you see today are many of the original features of the first building with extensions and embellishments added throughout the years. Together with its Rectory and neighbouring Bishop's Court, it forms one of the most significant heritage precincts of Adelaide. There are several magnificent stained-glass windows and a tranquil memorial garden. The church is among the few open daily, enabling residents and visitors to spend time in quietness and prayer.

The Jervois Basin lies within the upper reaches of the Port Adelaide River. The remains of four vessels broken up in the Basin are still evident at low tide in the ships' graveyard on the western bank, mostly within an area known as the Log Pool. The wooden ketch 'Alert' and four-masted schooner 'Fides', the composite paddle steamer 'Trafalgar' and a wooden pontoon, are all accessible from the shore. Other unidentified material has also been located. The graveyard is adjacent to a small park and viewing area, while a boardwalk through the nearby regenerated mangroves overlooks the site. Pelicans, ibis, cormorants and dolphins are frequent visitors to this part of the Port River. Mary Mackillop Centre

4 High Street, Adelaide City SA 5000
Mary MacKillop Centre in Kensington is a museum and interpretive centre, which highlights aspects of the educational and welfare work done by well-known Australian women, Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph in nineteenth century South Australia. You will find a well set up, three dimensional exhibition entitled “What would have become of them?” and there learn something of the nature and extent of the charitable work done by the Sisters among the disadvantaged, especially women and children. After spending an hour or so making your way around the display you can spend some time browsing among the books, videos and Mary MacKillop memorabilia on sale in the museum shop. If you wish, you can visit the nearby chapel for a few moments of quiet reflection. This beautiful chapel, which is still in use, was erected by Mary MacKillop and opened in 1876.

Dublin

Level 3 121-125, Adelaide City SA 5000
Dublin is a small town on the Adelaide Plains in South Australia, located 60 kilometres north of Adelaide. Situated on Highway 1, the town is surrounded by farmland and rural industry. Dublin is a reminder of an era when 60 kilometres was a fair day's horse or coach ride out of Adelaide. Today, Dublin is a popular service stop for travellers heading to the nearby crabbing beaches or to and from the Yorke Peninsula. The town has a hotel, fuel, general store, post office agency, butcher, green grocer and a nice little park with picnic facilities. Just south of the town is an imaginative collection of large sculptures that were built in protest of the government's decision to build a waste facility. Despite protests, the dump went ahead but these scrap metal sculptures are continuing to attract plenty of attention and have become quirky landmarks. ...
