For a quick nature fix only a short drive or train ride from Sydney, try Karloo walking track. This medium walk leads from Heathcote train station to the scenic Uloola Falls in the north-west section of Royal National Park. This moderately challenging track leads through heathland, passing beautiful Karloo Pool, a popular swimming and picnic spot. You might be tempted to stop for a refreshing dip before continuing. Be sure to look for the 'whaleback' rock outcrops, named after their resemblance to whales surfacing for air. The fascinating rock outcrops of Uloola Turrets are also worth exploring. At Uloola Falls, enjoy a relaxing lunch beside the delightful waterfall. Nearby Uloola Falls campground is a popular spot; however if you want to make a weekend of it you'll need to book online in advance. Return the way you came or take Uloola walking track to Waterfall Station....

Need a place to head out hiking or go mountain biking? Cawleys Road trail starts just off the old highway near Helensburgh and heads through low, open forest filled with scribbly gums, banksias and waratahs. It’s a wide track, surfaced with bitumen and gravel, generally flat, and suitable for all walking, mountain biking, cycling or horse riding levels. Stop for a breather and lunch at Kellys Falls picnic area. A beautiful series of waterfalls cascading into a rainforest gully are a great accompaniment to your break. Those who are mountain biking can also explore some of the other trails connecting to Cawleys Road trail. Among the scribbly gums and waratahs, you’re likely to see swamp wallabies or echidnas. Honeyeaters and wattlebirds are also attracted by many of the wildflowers, including Gymea lilies, grevilleas and banksias....

The Georges River Nature Reserve in Campbelltown features scenic beauty, European heritage sites and is rich in Indigenous history. There are many recreational and bushwalking opportunities available within the Georges River. Frere's Crossing Reserve, Keith Longhurst Reserve, Ingleburn Reserve and Simmo's Beach Reserve all feature walks and access to the river. A very light grade bushwalk will take you through some beautiful bushland to the Georges River. Filled with native flora, including Gymea lilies, fuchsia heath and grevilleas among other nestled between scribbly gums and grey gums. Take a look at the remains of the Frere's Crossing Bridge, named after early settler George Pierre Frere, and sit and relax and the tranquil beauty that surrounds you. The Keith Longhurst Reserve is a 76 hectare bushland reserve with significant scenic and cultural values. Formerly known as The Basin Reserve, the area offers a number of walking trails leading down to the Georges River, including The Basin Walking Trail and the Old Ford Road Walking Trail, which is a historic road built in the 1880s to cross the Georges River. This popular scenic waterhole showcases a small waterfall feature. There are no formal picnic facilities or amenities located at Keith Longhurst Reserve. The Basin Walking Track is a two kilometre return walk. The grade is medium though it does have steep sections and parts of it are a loose and rocky unsealed surface.
