True to name, this hillside vineyard looks across the Huon River to the Hartz mountains. In the chapel-like tasting room you can sample not only owners Robert and Anthea Pattersons wines but those from 10 other Tasmanian vineyards. Bearing the Hartzview label are wines made from riesling, chardonnay (wooded and unwooded), sauvignon blanc, semillon, pinot gris, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon grapes, including a sparkling pinot noir made methode champenoise. There also are fruit ports, liqueurs and mead. Tastings, door sales and cheese platters are available. The 3 hectare vineyard was established in 1988 on the site of an old gooseberry farm. If you cant get enough of the panoramic view, accommodation is available in a colonial-style homestead.

The Woodbridge Hill Handweaving Studio is a textile studio in southern Tasmania. With spectacular views of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel as a backdrop, this small intense textile space lets you experience a weaver's work at the loom. You may enjoy the colourful display of hand woven, hand dyed and knitted goods made from natural fibres such as alpaca, wool, cotton, silk, mohair and even dog hair. There are luxurious scarves,shawls, throws, vests, shoulder bags, beanies, berets, cushions, rugs and tapestries. The studio is open most mornings from 0930 to 1300 or by appointment. It is closed on Saturdays. The Handweaving Studio is just up from the famous Peppermint Bay Restaurant- follow the Highway sign. If you follow the road to the top you will find "Woodbridge Hill Hideaway" and a bit further you will come to the Harzview Wine Centre. Woodbridge a coastal town is 40 minutes south of Hobart (43 kilometres/26 miles).

The Hartzview Vineyard Heritage listed Pickers Hut Village is at Gardners Bay, in Tasmania’s South.

Take a stroll into history as you enjoy a self-guided discovery walk of the seven different restored small fruit pickers huts that families lived in during the picking season. Les and Lillian Polley established the fruit farm in the 1920’s. During World War two, some of these huts were home to Italian prisoners of war, who replaced agricultural workers serving overseas.

You can also visit the cellar door which is open every day and taste from the estate Reserve Pinot Noir, Chardonnays and the large range of preservative free fruit Ports, Liqueurs (Blackcurrant, Blackberry, Cherry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Tasmanian Cassis) and Mead.

The Vineyard Cafe is also open every day from 1000 to 1700 and serves all day lunches specialising in vineyard and cheese platters. Treat yourself to a delicious Hartzview dessert made especially with one of their fruit Ports or Liqueurs.

At the end of the day, unwind and stay a while to experience true luxury in Hartzview Vineyard’s self-contained spa homestead, relaxing in front of the log fire with a platter and glass of Hartzview Pinot Noir.

Gardner’s bay is a 45 minute drive (46 kilometres / 28 miles) South of Hobart.

Only an easy 25 minute drive from the centre of Hobart, Parnella Kettering is the perfect base from which to explore both the Channel and Bruny Island. Set in its own garden the Garden House includes a combined lounge and dining room with kitchenette, bathroom with spa bath. Talune Farm offers self contained cabin accommodation in a peaceful rural setting four kilometres from the small town of Cygnet. The cabins consist of a kitchen/sitting room with all cooking facilities electric heater and television and bathroom with shower over bath. There is a double bedroom and a small bedroom with three bunk beds. All linen is provided. The cabins are situated at the edge of the farm with room for children to play. Ten minutes drive will take you to pristine beaches safe for swimming and exploring rock pools. This is the perfect position for touring the beautiful Huon Valley and D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Kettering is a small town in a peaceful, idyllic setting on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, about 30 minutes' drive or 37 kilometres south of Hobart. The area was first explored by French navigator Bruni D'Entrecasteaux in 1792 and by the early 1800s whalers, sealers and timber cutters had settled in the region. The area around Kettering continued to develop due to its suitability for timber, and berry and fruit farming. The scallop industry was also a boom in the first half of the 1800s. Kettering now has a thriving community involved in many artistic and maritime pursuits. Yachts, fishing boats, salmon farmers in their runabouts, and sea kayaks are all regular sights in the sheltered waterways. There are two major marinas, as well as many smaller, privately owned jetties, and over 600 boats that call Kettering home. It also serves as an important service hub for local farmers and producers. Vineyards and colourful orchards of berries, cherries and apples surround the general area. The Bruny Island Ferry, Mirambeena, is a vehicular ferry which runs a return trip numerous times a day from Kettering to Bruny Island. At the ferry terminal there is a comprehensive visitor centre also housing a gift shop and a waterfront cafe, which specialises in local produce and seafood. Kettering is also home to a distinctive 1930s built hotel, which boasts superb views across to Bruny Island. The hotel houses a restaurant and offers bar meals. A Turkish cafe also serves as the local deli, and don't miss the speciality hand-made chocolates available from the local chocolatier. Great pizzas and coffee can be found at a small cafe opposite the oval. There are a number of accommodation options in the area, including charming self-contained cottages, beautifully appointed bed and breakfast options and luxurious suites overlooking the marina. The hotel also offers rooms upstairs. For a great view out across the D'Entrecasteaux Channel toward Bruny Island, take the short 10 minute walk through she-oak trees to Kettering Point.
