Cordeaux Dam was completed in 1926 and was the second of the Upper Nepean dams. It is 57 metres high, holds water from a 91 square kilometre catchment, and forms a lake of 780 hectares with a capacity of 93,640 megalitres. Take a look at the valve house and pylons, built in a Neo-Egyptian style. The dams of the Upper Nepean collect water from the catchments of the Cataract, Cordeaux, Avon and Nepean rivers, which are tributaries of the Upper Hawkesbury-Nepean River. These systems supply water to the Macarthur and Illawarra regions, the Wollondilly Shire, and metropolitan Sydney. Facilities include picnic shelters, electric barbecues, drinking water, toilets, disabled toilets, playground and viewing areas. Bookings are required for groups of 50 or more.

The Australian Motorlife Museum is dedicated to providing visitors with an insight into the history of motoring, through its showcase of historic vehicles and memorabilia and through their events, publications, and library. The Australian Motorlife Museum has a unique position in the tourism arena and has a national reputation within the heritage motoring community. The current collection comprises thousands of antique items and continues to grow at an astonishing rate. The museum is now the home of the Paul Butler Collection which includes about 16 motor vehicles prior to 1930, and many items of memorabilia - all of which will be put on exhibition progressively as they are restored.

For hikers, it’s a 30-minute walk uphill from Mt Kembla village and is the starting point for the 5.3 kilometre Ring and Summit tracks. If you just want to enjoy the view without the hard work, car parking is available at the lookout which you can access via Cordeaux Road. Kembla is an Aboriginal word meaning “wild game abundant” or “plenty of game”. The Dharawal Aboriginal people called the area “jum-bullah” or “Djembla” which means wallaby. There are no facilities at the lookout....

The area is also popular with families taking advantage of the picnic spot by firing up barbecues on Sundays. Please note there is no access to Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area from Brokers Nose and Brokers Point via Hawthorn Street, as this is private property....
