The Baldessin Press is a not for profit association which is financially independent, relying on revenue generated from workshops, access fees, and a great deal of voluntary labour and goodwill.

We offer inspiring workshops and opportunities to anyone wanting to explore their creative journey in a tranquil location. Workshops are open to anyone, from beginners on. By limiting the workshop numbers each participant is catered for at his/her personal level in a friendly and relaxed working atmosphere.

Twice yearly the studio is open to the public as part of the "Nillumbik Artist Open Studio Program", in May & November. See News & Events for details.

Shantell Vineyard is a small vineyard and winery situated in a picturesque hillside setting at Dixons Creek, just 60 kilometres from the heart of Melbourne. Visitors are very welcome to Shantell Vineyard's modern restaurant and tasting facilities. The combination of good food, good wines and exceptional views makes sitting down for a meal almost irresistible. The outlook is stunning and the Aboriginal art collection on display on the dining room and cellar door quite unique. 'Hidden away in a lovely quiet little area among the gum trees and foothills at the northern end of the Yarra Valley, Shantell is a great place to visit. The relaxing pastel-coloured cellar door and friendly restaurant have picture windows that invite the outside in as though you are sitting among the vines, and you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere outside in warm weather. Domaine Chandon was established by French Champagne house Moet & Chandon in 1986 and is dedicated to the production of méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine and cool climate still wines. Only one hour from the centre of Melbourne, the Green Point Room visitor centre at Domaine Chandon offers spectacular views across the vineyard and valley to the mountains. Domaine Chandon's winery tour is considered one of the most outstanding wine tourism experiences in the world. A wine masterclass session, 'Sunday School', is run every Sunday and provides both novices and wine enthusiasts alike with a fascinating insight into the world of sparkling and still wine production. The Green Point Room has a variety of food and wine offerings. Lunch is available daily with a menu designed to complement Domaine Chandon's sparkling and still wine styles. Yarra Valley Gateway Estate fronts a 120 acre, family owned and operated farm and farm gate shop is located on the junction of the Melba and Maroondah Highway in Coldstream, 45 minutes from Melbourne. Yarra Valley Dairy offers a delightful experience of fine cheese and wine. Here at the Dairy, which is in the centre of a picturesque dairy farm in the heart of the Yarra Valley, you can taste some of Australia’s finest handmade cheeses.

The cheeses are made from both cows and goats milk from surrounding farms and pastures. If you are lucky enough, the making of the cheese can be seen through the viewing window (on certain days) and tastings and sales of the hand-made farmhouse cheeses are available along with fine wines from small single vineyards. The Dairy also offers some wonderful regional produce for you to take home.

Gulf Station began in the 1840's as part of a 25,000 acre run known as the Gulf. The Bell family began their lives here in the late 1840's and the homestead and outbuildings are a part of the legacy that the family has left behind for you to explore and enjoy. Gulf Station is one of the oldest and most intact examples of a pioneer farm complex in Australia. Take a self-guided tour around the property's homestead and outbuildings and be transported into the domestic life of a rural colonial family where a mother's word was law! Enjoy Australia's largest maize maze! Navigate your way around the newly opened Maize Maze, the largest in the southern hemisphere! In an isolated corner of the Yarra Valley among the high hills and lovely country of Kangaroo Ground, Redbox is a friendly, family-owned cellar door worth a detour. Cabernet Sauvignon is a speciality here, and the range of wines is certain to expand your experience of this great grape variety. Of course there are traditional Cabernet reds, but there's also a white version, a tawny, an 'ice Cabernet', and even a Cabernet jelly that's perfect with one of Redbox's cheese platters.' Ralph Kyte-Powell The eight acre vineyard in Kangaroo Ground at the Western end of the Yarra Valley in the Shire of Nillumbik was planted to Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet in 1986. The property was named "Wildfell" by a pioneering Scotsman, Walter Wippel, who settled this property in the Kangaroo Ground area in the early 1850's; establishing orchards, market gardens and grazing land. No doubt, wine production was high on the list of priorities, and the rich decomposed volcanic soils assisted in this pursuit. Over 150 years on, the Kangaroo Ground area has seen the establishment of a number of new vineyards due to the high quality of the fruit and ideal growing conditions. It's proximity to Melbourne and the rolling hills broken by dense stands of Red Box and other eucalypts makes it a haven for weekend visitors and wine tasters from all over. Punt Road Wines and Napoleon & Co Cider is located in the Yarra Valley although the winery is named after a major thoroughfare in the middle of Melbourne. Considered one of the busiest roads in Melbourne, within walking distance from the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Punt Road Wines began in the 1850's as a quiet dirt road that ran into Yarra River. The road was surrounded by some of the first vineyards in Victoria, and was linked across the river by a punt, which would ferry people and goods to the other side. A bridge now stands where the punt once was, and the vineyards have been re-established throughout the Yarra Valley, where the grapes for this wine are grown today. The Punt Road Wines range consists of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Late Harvest Semillon. When vintage conditions permit, exclusive parcels will be labelled under the Punt Road MVN reserve label. In 2008, Punt Road Wines launched the Napoleone & Co. Cider range. Made from estate grown fruit, they produce both an apple and pear Cider as well as a sparkling Methode Traditionelle Pear Cider. 'Punt Road's name comes from Punt Road in the Melbourne suburb of South Yarra, the site of thriving vineyards 150 years ago. This beautifully tended modern vineyard is in prime Yarra Valley heartland, sharing its location with an apple orchard and a smart, comfortable cellar door. Allinda Winery crafts elegant and characterful wines that are made from fruit of outstanding calibre grown using biological farming practices. Range includes stylish, refined examples of regional heroes such as Chardonnay and Cabernet. As well as innovative, creative wines like Podium, a sparkling Riesling; Alba Toro, new variety from Spain; and Double Picked Riesling - a fortified "white port" style. Established in 1990. The rustic cellar door is constructed of timber recycled from an 1886 wool store and offers stunning views, overlooking several vineyards. Tastings are very personal and informative. Blending tradition and technology to produce wines of distinction.

Coombe Farm Estate Wines is one of the oldest and largest family-owned vineyard estates in the Yarra Valley. Once the home of Melbourne's famous soprano Dame Nellie Melba, it is stilled owned and occupied by her descendants. The vineyards of Coombe Farm Estate Wines are located in Coldstream, at the gateway to the Yarra Valley, one of Australia's most recognised, highly regarded and foremost cool-climate viticultural regions. The vineyards supply ultra-premium wine grapes to many of Australia's leading wine producers, with the best selected for the small, boutique and increasingly celebrated Coombe Farm wine range. Coombe Farm Estate Wine's tasting room is located among the vines off Saint Huberts Road in Coldstream and is a warm, inviting, friendly and an unintimidating place for a relaxing and entertaining tasting experience. The Croydon Golf Club was established in 1925 at its former Dorset Road site and relocated to its current site in Yering in 2008. Now known as Yering Meadows Golf Club, it features a 27 hole Ross Watson designed golf course, first rate practice facilities including a driving range, two putting greens, a chipping green and nets.

A modern clubhouse with indoor and outdoor dining is nestled in amongst the property with commanding and uninterrupted views of Melbourne’s Yarra Valley. Yering Meadows Golf Club is the ideal venue to host your next corporate golf day. Our professional and friendly staff will tailor an event to ensure a successful and enjoyable day for all involved.

The availability of our course and clubhouse facilities can vary depending on the season and other scheduled events but the preferred days are Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays with both morning and afternoon rounds possible.

Shotgun starts are recommended for fields of greater than 80 players up to a maximum of 128. This also guarantees course exclusivity for the duration of your round.

A variety of catering options are available. We can cater for breakfast functions, cocktail finger food functions, buffet lunches or dinners or even a more formal a la carte meal. Once the details of your event have been discussed bookings will be confirmed on receipt of a deposit.

Train Trak Wines is situated 50 kilometres North-East of Melbourne. Nestled by the Yarra River, in the heart of the Yarra Valley, the Train Trak Wines vineyard produces premium quality grapes, which reflect the regions' cool climate, rich soil and ideal elevation. At Train Trak Wines vineyard the first vines were planted in 1995 and the first vintage was in the year 2000. All of the multi-award winning wines are produced solely from estate grown hand picked grapes. The Train Trak Wines Cellar Door and Zonzo's Pizzeria opened to the public in early 2007, located in a beautifully renovated dairy shed, the Ristorante can seat 110 or more people, and has one of the most spectacular views of the Yarra Valley and Dandenong ranges. The property is still a working farm and offers a fantastic, relaxed, rustic atmosphere which combines top class food and premium Yarra Valley wines. Train Trak Wines feature Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. 'The little navy blue and yellow rail motor that used to ply the Yarra Valley is long gone, but the railway track remains, running across this beautifully kept property. It feels as much like a working farm as a winery, with Zonzo's wood-fired pizza restaurant in the old milking shed, and the cellar door in an old tractor shed. There's a wonderful view of distant Mount Dandenong, and Napoleon the moose looks down on you from the wall as you taste the estate's wines, especially the elegantly balanced reds.' A long, winding driveway leaves the Melba Highway and climbs across the slopes to this comfy hilltop café and cellar door. A peaceful spread of countryside below rolls across to the distant Dandenongs. The friendly café is a cosy spot in winter, and it catches cool breezes in summer while the rest of the world swelters. Estate grown wines are made in a range of styles, with unusual types like Verdelho and sweetish Autumn Riesling sharing the bill with award-winning, spicy cool climate Shiraz. Worth a detour.' Located on the Melba highway, only 3km past Yarra Glen is the Yarrawood Estate picturesque vineyard and café/cellar door. Not only can you sample the full Tall Tales range but also sit back with a glass of wine, a cup of coffee, or enjoy a snack or meal in the relaxing atmosphere of the cafe and take in the uninterrupted and simply awesome views. Sutherland Estate has one of the most spectacular vineyard sites in Australia. On high ground at the southern edge of the Great Divide, the cathedral ceiling cellar door and large outside deck command impressive views down the Yarra Valley and far into the distance. Birdsongs fill the air, and the highway seems far away. Cheese platters are available to accompany the estate wines that are headed by a very good Chardonnay. The Spanish origin Tempranillo planted, a rarity in the district, shows great promise.' RALPH KYTE-POWELL Sutherland Estate is a family-owned, boutique enterprise in the heart of the premium, cool climate wine growing region of the Yarra Valley. Most vineyard management is carried out by hand to ensure the highest quality fruit. This includes hand pruning, bunch thinning, leaf plucking and early morning hand-picking. The cool climate of the site (and the Yarra in general) provides a longer than usual ripening season, which in turn produces wines of varietal intensity, together with complexity and elegance. Varieties planted include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, with small parcels of Gewurztraminer and Tempranillo. The wines have received immediate acclaim with the first entry into James Halliday's 2005 Wine Companion. Coldstream Hills was established in 1985, within the Yarra Valley Wine Region. Creating Wines such as Chardonnay Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Reserve Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Reserve Pinot Noir, Merlot, Reserve Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and limited release wines. Small volumes of museum wines also available. Please contact for details. "Coldstream Hills is the creation of James Halliday, Australia's doyen of wine writing and just about everything else to do with wine. James is still around to offer a consulting hand at the winery, although he no longer owns the property. The cellar door looks across the lovely pastoral landscape of the Yarra Valley towards the northern hills. It is a comfortable place to taste the excellent Coldstream Hills range, and chat with the knowledgeable staff about the wines. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the mainstays here, and the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon can be superb." Ralph Kyte-Powell.

Yering Station was originally established in 1838 as Victoria's first vineyard and today, this family owned Winery Tourism Complex is reaching new heights. Beyond the manicured gardens lies the contemporary stone edifice, which houses the Wine Bar Restaurant and the winemaking facilities, seen through the viewing platforms. The restaurant's cuisine is modern with the emphasis on regional produce. The seasonal menu is designed to compliment Yering Station wines. The converted old winery building comprises a Produce Store show casing local produce, dynamic Art Gallery raising money for the Royal children's hospital, Matt's Bar the perfect place to enjoy a casual glass of wine with a gourmet snack and the Cellar Door. Dominique Portet was established in 2000. 'The Portet family has been making wine for 10 generations, since the early 17th century. Now affable Frenchman Dominique Portet, a household name in Victorian wine circles, and son Ben, are continuing the tradition at this charming winery in the heart of the Yarra Valley. The cellar door has a French country feel, and the Winemaker's café serves light foods from the winemaker's table (perfect with a cool glass of the estate's Fontaine Rosé). Samson Hill Winery and Restaurant at Kangaroo Ground, 28 kilometres north east of Melbourne CBD, was established in 1998 on a spectacular location overlooking the City of Melbourne, the surrounding mountains to Kinglake, the Dandenong's and much more. The views are second to none and the clean air is plentiful. The concept of the founding family was to strive for quality only and develop full bodied rich reds and crisp fruity whites. Wines that can be enjoyed immediately but may also be kept in cellar for many years and would mature beautifully. The varieties grown on the property are, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Verdelho. From these the founders have produced a full bodied Shiraz, a bold Pinot Noir, a delicate Rose and two varieties from the Verdelho - a sweet and a dry, both with the same bold fruity, floral nose and crisp melon characters (very popular). Art at Linden Gate is a contemporary Art Gallery that also has self-contained accommodation on the property. The purpose built mud brick gallery with huge timber beams is an interesting and intimate space with regularly changing exhibitions. As you drive up the driveway you will marvel at the stainless steel, concrete and glass sculptures by "artist in residence" Ernst Fries. History 
Formerly Greenstone of Heathcote, Greenstone Vineyards began in 2003 as a 40 hectare property north of the town of Heathcote, at Colbinabbin. The vineyard is positioned on the ridge of Cambrian soil that runs through the eastern side of the range. This narrow strip is unique, not only to vines grown in Victoria, but in Australia. These deep red soils, mottled with lime, are the oldest known in the country, originating over 550 million years ago.  It is from these soils that the winery derived its name - the Heathcote ‘Greenstone’ is a form of copper-infused basalt, and is an integral part of the soil. The climate and generous red soils of the Heathcote vineyard create a unique combination that is ideal for producing outstanding, award-winning Shiraz and Sangiovese wines.

The success of Greenstone’s Heathcote wines inspired the team to explore opportunities to expand our wine range further. This search led to the Yarra Valley - the home of some of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet varietals.

Originally Yarra Ridge, the winery was more recently known as Sticks Yarra Valley. Greenstone Vineyards completed the acquisition of the vineyard and winery in January 2015. 

Originally established in 1862, St Huberts Vineyard is one of the fabled properties that made Yarra Valley wines famous in the 1800s. Replanted in the 1960s, it's again at the heart of the region's wine story. The welcoming cellar door at the edge of the vineyard has interesting photographs of the estate in its 19th century heyday to reflect on. The labels on the bottles resemble the old originals, but the wines are modern styles and very good across a range of types. There are also rare specials like Roussanne to explore.' The modern St Huberts Vineyard estate is the reincarnation of one of Victoria's most famous and historic vineyard properties. 120 years ago St Huberts Vineyard's wines were the toast of the colony, winning awards internationally, as well as mightily pleasing the grandees back home. Today's St Huberts Vineyard was one of the properties that launched the Yarra Valley's second golden age in the 1960s, and the wines continue to be good examples of regional styles. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are the stars here; don't miss them.

The original brainchild of four local friends, Coldstream Brewery opened its doors to beer lovers and diners in June 2007. The restaurant and bar are housed in a charming old brick building in the heart of Coldstream, the gateway to the beautiful Yarra Valley. The micro brewery has being set up in a purpose-built extension of the restaurant, with large windows through which you can see the Coldstream beers being brewed in small batches by their Brewer Alan Harding. For a small charge, you can try a tasting of the full range of draught products that includes a delicious handcrafted cider. Wine and Cider maker Phil Kelly makes this premium cider from the juice of local apples extracted on a traditional rack and cloth cider press. The restaurant features a menu of share plates, mains and pizzas along with daily blackboard specials. Head Chef Stuart Benson develops the menu around local and seasonal ingredients to create simple yet high quality food. Lunch and dinner are served 365 days a year. Lots of new vineyard planting has taken place north of Yarra Glen in recent years and standards have varied, but some new establishments feel built to last from the start. Mandala is one of them.
