Centro Ringwood is a stand-alone centre located on the north side of Maroondah Highway, at the western end of the District Centre. Major tenants include a Target Department store, Coles Supermarket and an ALDI Food Store. Brumby’s, Bakers Delight, Amcal Pharmacy, Suzanne Grae, Autograph, Fuji Image Plus, Tattersalls Newsagency, along with numerous other giftware and speciality retailers, make Centro Ringwood the ideal one-stop centre for all your fresh food, fashion and daily shopping needs.

A site visit gives you an opportunity not only to see the buildings, but also to consider how the location and natural surrounds framed arrival experiences. Block 19 Bonegilla is set out as part of a typical Second World War military war camp. It was used, first, as army headquarters and, then, as the migrant centre staff block. The army continued to use and maintain Block 19 into the 1990s, well after the migrant centre closed. Block 19’s survival to the present day makes it a rare but representative example of post-war migrant accommodation camps. There are few buildings, if any, still existing at other post-war migrant accommodation places.

The buildings of Block 19 are in their original state. Bonegilla’s army beginnings meant that accommodation was severe. The buildings were mostly standard army-type huts, usually unlined, timber-framed huts with corrugated iron cladding and low-pitched, gabled roofs. Like the other blocks, Block 19 was fairly self-contained with its own communal kitchen, eating place and ablutions.

The sleeping quarters were commonly meant to accommodate 20 men and had no internal partitions. From 1951 on, the huts were divided into cubby-hole sized cubicles each slightly less than four metres by three metres so as to give some privacy. Adjoining cubicles were linked for two people. Families with several children were giving cubicles next to each other. Unlike the original sleeping huts, the cubicles were lined and painted. Wire-based army beds with thin kapok mattresses were replaced by the 1960’s with eight inch mattresses.

When you first arrive at Block 19, stop at the visitor centre to familiarise yourself with what the site has to offer. Then take a guided tour or an audio tour, and experience the huts, the purpose built recreation hall, the communal dining and washing facilities and memorabilia collected from the original migrants and the camp itself.

The closest state park to Melbourne, Warrandyte is a haven for picnickers, bushwalkers, canoeists, birdwatchers and those who enjoy peace and solitude. The lightly wooded landscape is dominated by the Yarra River as it winds through the Warrandyte Gorge. The hills around Warrandyte have a distinctive bluish-green hue, typical of the Red Box foliage common in the area. Things to do - The clear light and peace and silence of the bush have always been a source of inspiration to artists, writers and people who wish to contemplate nature. - Picnicking, bushwalking, swimming, bird-watching, fishing, exploring forgotten goldfields, nature walks and photography are popular. - So is canoeing on the Yarra River, but sufficient time must be allowed for this activity - the journey by canoe from the canoe access ramp at Wittons Reserve (Mount Lofty) to Jumping Creek Reserve is about six hours. - Horse riding is permitted along designated trails, and gold panning is allowed in Andersons Creek. - Abseiling and rock climbing are permitted at Whipstick Gully Quarry by arrangement with the senior ranger. In an isolated corner of the Yarra Valley among the high hills and lovely country of Kangaroo Ground, Redbox is a friendly, family-owned cellar door worth a detour. Cabernet Sauvignon is a speciality here, and the range of wines is certain to expand your experience of this great grape variety. Of course there are traditional Cabernet reds, but there's also a white version, a tawny, an 'ice Cabernet', and even a Cabernet jelly that's perfect with one of Redbox's cheese platters.' Ralph Kyte-Powell The eight acre vineyard in Kangaroo Ground at the Western end of the Yarra Valley in the Shire of Nillumbik was planted to Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet in 1986. The property was named "Wildfell" by a pioneering Scotsman, Walter Wippel, who settled this property in the Kangaroo Ground area in the early 1850's; establishing orchards, market gardens and grazing land. No doubt, wine production was high on the list of priorities, and the rich decomposed volcanic soils assisted in this pursuit. Over 150 years on, the Kangaroo Ground area has seen the establishment of a number of new vineyards due to the high quality of the fruit and ideal growing conditions. It's proximity to Melbourne and the rolling hills broken by dense stands of Red Box and other eucalypts makes it a haven for weekend visitors and wine tasters from all over. Enjoy your visit on any Saturday or Sunday at the Redbox Cellar Door in Ness Lane, Kangaroo Ground - in the high country at the west end of the Yarra Valley, where excellence attracts the wine buff, and the Nillumbik landscape enchants all those who venture to explore.

Visit Schwerkolt Cottage and step back in time as you explore the original pioneer stone cottage. Enjoy beautiful gardens and a park like setting beside Mullum Mullum Creek, with barbecue facilities, a children's playground and creekside walks. Koomba Park consists of billabongs and lakes fed by the Dandenong Creek. The bird hide provides a perfect way to observe birds in the natural habitat. The trail network through Koomba Park incorporates both the Dandenong Creek Trail which branches off to a pretty boardwalk section and the Eastlink Trail that continues on to follow the Eastlink Freeway. Kellybrook Winery & Kelly Brothers Cider was established by the Kelly family in 1969, set in a secluded little valley, only 35 kilometres from Melbourne's city centre. The closest Yarra Valley winery to Melbourne. Kellybrook's rolling hills are a pretty backdrop to the vineyard and give a lovely rural feel. Kellybrook produces an extensive range of award-winning table wines and specialises in hand-disgorged sparkling wines, using the traditional French method. Exceptional apple and pear ciders are also made on the property, including the unique Champagne Cider, a favourite in the cellar door and the restaurant, and apple brandy, distilled in the tiny pot still. Samson Hill Winery and Restaurant at Kangaroo Ground, 28 kilometres north east of Melbourne CBD, was established in 1998 on a spectacular location overlooking the City of Melbourne, the surrounding mountains to Kinglake, the Dandenong's and much more. The views are second to none and the clean air is plentiful. The concept of the founding family was to strive for quality only and develop full bodied rich reds and crisp fruity whites. Wines that can be enjoyed immediately but may also be kept in cellar for many years and would mature beautifully. The varieties grown on the property are, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Verdelho. From these the founders have produced a full bodied Shiraz, a bold Pinot Noir, a delicate Rose and two varieties from the Verdelho - a sweet and a dry, both with the same bold fruity, floral nose and crisp melon characters (very popular).
