Tewantin National Park

Distinctively-shaped Mount Tinbeerwah (265 metres) stands out in the Tewantin National Park, which protects ancient flooded gum forests, wallum heaths and cabbage-tree palms. It also offers great views to the popular Noosa coast and lakes. Wooroi day-use area, set among she-oaks and bloodwoods, has picnic tables, barbecues and drinking water. (The butcherbirds and noisy miners are cheeky but please don't feed them). Walk along Wooroi Creek track and cool Palm Grove track. Head towards Cooroy and stop at Mount Tinbeerwah lookout. A 500 metre track leads to a lookout with 360 degree views over the Noosa River system, lakes and surrounding forests. About 130 metres along the walk, a lookout with coastal views is suitable for assisted wheelchair access.

Set on large rolling lawns, the historic Apallonian Hotel is a great place for kids to run and play while Mum and Dad sit back and relax. Set on three and half acres the hotel was named after the Greek God of Music and Theatre. First licensed in 1868 in Gympie the hotel was moved in 1987 to Boreen Point. It provides poke machine free environment, accommodation, beer garden and the restaurant attracts people from all over the country serving crocodile, emu and kangaroo and seafood.

This Accredited Visitor Information Centre offers maps, brochures and historical information of the Noosa region and surrounds. It is staffed by knowledgeable locals and free, friendly advice can be given on things to do, for example The Magnificent Noosa North Shore and entrance to the Cooloola Great Sandy Region including Teerwah Coloured Sands and surrounding National Park, pristine beaches and 104 kilometres of great walking trails, day trips to Natural Heritage Listed Fraser Island, local water sports, fishing, boating and safe swimming, choices of markets providing local produce and crafts. All included in the Noosa Biosphere. There is something for everybody....

In Cooloola, Great Sandy National Park, you can experience the majesty of nature's sculpture in sand. Massive dunes, towering cliffs of coloured sands and wide ocean beaches have been etched by wind and water. Tall forests, fragrant wildflower heaths and paperbark swamps decorate the sands. Water features abound, including surf, freshwater lakes and the undisturbed upper Noosa River. Walk one of the many scenic tracks to explore places such as the historic Double Island Point lighthouse. Pack a tent to hike the two to four day Cooloola Wilderness Trail. Drive along Cooloola's eastern beach or take the Cooloola Way and Freshwater Road through tall open forests and heathlands. You will need a four wheel drive vehicle with high clearance to enjoy driving the sand tracks or the beach at low tide. Paddle peacefully through the serene reaches of the Upper Noosa River. Escape the hustle and bustle with an unforgettable camping trip. Choose from a variety of camping areas from well-appointed camping areas with facilities to walkers' camps with nothing but birdsong and sea breezes for company. Cooroy is an historic country town known for its quality woodwork. This busy and creative centre has won acclaim and prizes for its streetscapes and community artwork. Settled in the late 1800s as a camp for sawmill workers, the town prospered when the railway arrived and the region's timber and dairy industries boomed. Today Cooroy is famous for Cooroy Mountain Spring Water, which flows from Cooroy Mountain and is sold all over Australia. Visitors to this area can also explore the Noosa Botanic Gardens to see native plants and abundant bird life. Covering 20 acres, the gardens are a popular venue for concerts, weddings and other events. The shores of nearby Lake Macdonald also abound with tranquil spots for a picnic. Created in 1965, the lake has an average depth of six metres and is a popular spot for fishing. Note that fishing enthusiasts must have a permit and may not use a conventional fuel-driven boat on the lake. The Cooroy Butter Factory Community Arts Centre has an exhibition space that shows work by local and interstate artists. While logging is no longer a local industry, timber is still prominent in the materials chosen by local craftspeople, who exhibit at woodwork and craft shows as well as the Contemporary Furniture Exhibition each October....
