Yarra Yering Logo and Images

Yarra Yering

4 Briarty Rd, Gruyere VIC 3770

Frequently named among the top Yarra Valley wineries, Yarra Yering’s proud tradition is being continued to great acclaim by current winemaker Sarah Crowe.

Sarah Crowe, named James Halliday’s 2017 Winemaker of the Year, focuses on giving individual blocks and varieties the time and attention they deserve to continue making high-quality wine.

Yarra Yering was established in 1969 at the foot of the Warramate Hills in Victoria's Yarra Valley by Doctor Bailey Carrodus. The cellar door is open for wine tasting seven days a week at this, one of the best, oldest and most beautiful Yarra Valley vineyards. Vineyard management places the emphasis on sustainability, hand picking, hand pruning and cropping at low levels to produce intensely flavoured fruit with great colour and high levels of natural acidity. The original 30 acre vineyard has gradually been expanded to just on 70 acres of vines with a broad range of varieties from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir through to Cabernet and Shiraz to Portuguese varieties planted on terraces at the top of the vineyard.

The wines are made in the Carrodus designed winery with purpose built equipment. Small batch fermentation in half tonne stainless steel fermenters, maturation in a mixture of new and old French oak barriques produces wines of great intensity and finesse. Elegant, supple and strongly varietal, the wines are approachable while young, but will reward cellaring under the suitable conditions reaching their peak of complexity and sophistication after 15 to 20 years in the bottle.

Punt Road Wines and Napoleon & Co Cider

10 St Huberts Rd, Coldstream VIC 3770

Punt Road Wines and Napoleon & Co Cider is located in the Yarra Valley although the winery is named after a major thoroughfare in the middle of Melbourne. Considered one of the busiest roads in Melbourne, within walking distance from the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Punt Road Wines began in the 1850's as a quiet dirt road that ran into Yarra River. The road was surrounded by some of the first vineyards in Victoria, and was linked across the river by a punt, which would ferry people and goods to the other side. A bridge now stands where the punt once was, and the vineyards have been re-established throughout the Yarra Valley, where the grapes for this wine are grown today. The Punt Road Wines range consists of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Late Harvest Semillon. When vintage conditions permit, exclusive parcels will be labelled under the Punt Road MVN reserve label. In 2008, Punt Road Wines launched the Napoleone & Co. Cider range. Made from estate grown fruit, they produce both an apple and pear Cider as well as a sparkling Methode Traditionelle Pear Cider. 'Punt Road's name comes from Punt Road in the Melbourne suburb of South Yarra, the site of thriving vineyards 150 years ago. This beautifully tended modern vineyard is in prime Yarra Valley heartland, sharing its location with an apple orchard and a smart, comfortable cellar door. Punt Road wines are very good and well priced for their quality.' Ralph Kyte-Powell.

The driveway meanders past an old red shed beside a dam, contemporary pieces of sculpture, up to a smart cellar door and casual restaurant among the trees. Large glass windows and a terrace allow visitors lovely views, and the staff are ultra-friendly and very professional. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir excel here, and the well-priced second label, Red Shed, offers great value." Review by Ralph Kyte-Powell. Medhurst Wines is Estate grown, low cropped and handmade. The new architechturally designed restaurant (opened October 2013) gives way to the most stunning views the estate has to offer, and is an important part of the Oakridge experience. The smart, contemporary restaurant serves seasonal produce with fl air and imagination, while the soothing vistas of lake, hills, valley and vineyard from here are food for the soul. A must-see and must-taste destination for all visitors to the Yarra.' Review by Ralph Kyte-Powell.

TarraWarra Museum of Art Logo and Images

TarraWarra Museum of Art

311 Healesville-Yarra Glen Rd, Healesville VIC 3777

The TarraWarra Museum of Art is the first privately funded, significant public visual arts museum to be set up under the Australian Government's philanthropic measures announced in March 1999. TWMA operates as a not-for-profit institution, with a charter to display Australian art from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day. Eva and Marc Besen had long dreamt of sharing their inexhaustible passion for Australian art with the people of Australia and beyond. In 1999, the first steps were taken to make this dream a reality, with the formulation of a vision for a new museum in the Yarra Valley, with its own collection of Australian art chosen from their private collection that has been lovingly assembled over the last fifty years. In 2000, an architectural competition was conducted with five of Melbourne's most outstanding architects invited to present design schemes for the museum. Allan Powell's design for this elegant building, arcing gently from the earth in concert with the contours and hues of the landscape, was chosen. This realisation of Eva and Marc Besen's vision in their gift to the public, provides a retreat from the city and an opportunity to experience three of their enduring passions, Australian modern art, architecture and the beautiful Yarra Valley landscape. 2011-2012 Exhibition Program includes: - Sandra Leveson: Paintings of Poise & Passion (6 August - 2 October 2011) - Boundary Line (6 August - 2 October 2011) - James Morrison: The Great Tasmanian Wars (6 August - 13 November 2011) - William Delafield Cook: A Survey (15 October 2011 - 12 February 2012) - Jacqueline Mitelman: Facetime (15 October 2011 - 12 February 2012) - Sam Leach: The Ecstasy of Infrastructure (19 November 2011 - 4 March 2012)

GREENSTONE VINEYARDS Logo and Images

GREENSTONE VINEYARDS

179 Glenview Rd, Yarra Glen VIC 3775

Greenstone Vineyards is situated on 90 acres at the base of the Christmas Hills, in Yarra Glen. Our picturesque Yarra Valley vineyard, winery & cellar door is only 1 hour from Melbourne’s CBD.

Our focus on producing only the finest wines from the finest grapes means that Greenstone has only ever produced very small quantities of wine – we are not interested in making higher volume commercial wines, rather small volume, handcrafted and premium wines. The Greenstone wine portfolio encompasses both our Heathcote and Yarra Valley vineyards, producing a select range of wine varietals in the way that we think great wines are made – by starting with the best sites that produce the best grapes. These wines will always be a reflection of the unique characteristics of their regional site.

With sweeping views of the Yarra Valley, and the Dandenong ranges beyond, the Greenstone Vineyards cellar door has brought our wines closer to its consumers, creating the opportunity for people to try our wines and understand the Greenstone philosophy, whilst being immersed in the heart of the Yarra Valley and its wine-making history.

Call in for a casual tasting, a more formal wine experience, or to simply unwind with a glass of Greenstone wine. Enjoy the company of friends on or beautiful deck or expansive lawn whilst taking in the spectacular scenery.

History
Formerly Greenstone of Heathcote, Greenstone Vineyards began in 2003 as a 40 hectare property north of the town of Heathcote, at Colbinabbin. The vineyard is positioned on the ridge of Cambrian soil that runs through the eastern side of the range. This narrow strip is unique, not only to vines grown in Victoria, but in Australia. These deep red soils, mottled with lime, are the oldest known in the country, originating over 550 million years ago.  It is from these soils that the winery derived its name - the Heathcote ‘Greenstone’ is a form of copper-infused basalt, and is an integral part of the soil. The climate and generous red soils of the Heathcote vineyard create a unique combination that is ideal for producing outstanding, award-winning Shiraz and Sangiovese wines.

The success of Greenstone’s Heathcote wines inspired the team to explore opportunities to expand our wine range further. This search led to the Yarra Valley - the home of some of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet varietals.

Originally Yarra Ridge, the winery was more recently known as Sticks Yarra Valley. Greenstone Vineyards completed the acquisition of the vineyard and winery in January 2015.
