This exhibition presents recent works by Merton Chambers concerning environmental destruction and universal hunger. Born in rural Ontario, Canada in 1929, Merton studied at the Ontario College of Art and was awarded a traveling scholarship to Europe. He later established a successful pottery studio in Toronto, becoming a significant figure in the arts and crafts movement of the 1960s and 70s. He moved to Australia in the 1980s becoming the founding director of the Noosa Regional Gallery. Merton has continued to paint and draw throughout his long career and his work is held in public and private collections around the world. Bookings Essential! Bribie Island transformed into a military installation and throughout our region, mainland areas became locations for soldier training and recreational camps. South East Queensland is a testing ground for many Australian First Nations artists. It is a place of experimentation and interrogation where artists share their own stories in their own words. With a focus on First Nations artists living in or from South East Queensland, this exhibition features works from the Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Collection and examines ideas surrounding sovereignty, the continuing impacts of colonisation and connections to place. The annual 1770 Art Show is held each May in Agnes Water, Central Coast Queensland. The show covers the categories of Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Textile, Secondary and Primary School. With a prize pool of more the AUD7000 it is one of the premier regional Art Shows. Each year the Art Show works closely with Queensland Art and the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) and the show is proud to have a curator from QA/GOMA as the guest judge. The project is dated 14 February 1947. Robert Pene has an obsession: he endlessly catalogues boss drovers in portraits that vividly evoke the resilient, determined spirit of the rugged individuals responsible for moving thousands of livestock and teams of stockmen and cooks along the great pastoral stock routes of Australia, travelling over vast distances from station to market, or finding feed and water in times of drought. View a selection of 200 individual drawings from 'BOSS DROVERS' 1996–2014, all deliberately executed as if by the hand of a ten-year-old. Over a 20-year period, Robert MacPherson made these in the guise of his alter ego, Robert Pene, a grade 4 student at St Joseph’s Convent, Nambour, Queensland. Shades of Blue is the theme of this Redland Yurara members art exhibition which is their first in gallery exhibition since the Covid restrictions have been eased. The Shades of Blue Exhibition features monochrome paintings of various shades of blue from light to dark with only white for mixing and using the darkest blue and no black. There is no restriction on the theme or subject matter of the artworks. Their Gallery will be manned by volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am to 4pm. Please phone the Gallery during these hours to confirm opening times.
