Once you have completed Blacksmithing Advanced, you are eligible to take part in our Project workshops. In this three day workshop you will complete two intricate projects - a Key Rack and a Wall Mounted Coat and Hat Rack. Participants will use traditional scroll work, twisting and other decorative techniques. Meet your tutor: Terry Drennan began training as a blacksmith and farrier in Melbourne when he was 21 years old. He has won the Australian champion in blacksmithing and farriery on many occasions. At the same time, Terry never lost the skills and enthusiasm for the other traditional facets of his trade such as making decorative gates and furniture. He has been teaching blacksmithing courses at Cobb+Co Museum for over 15 years. Spectators are welcome at all workshops. All of their Blacksmithing Workshops have a maximum of eight participants to ensure you receive all the assistance and direction you require. Age: 16 years and over. Create a custom project in this three hour workshop designed for teens aged 13 to 17 years. Join Australian Champion Blacksmith Terry Drennan for a short lesson in the custom built blacksmithing shop. Learn techniques such as drawing, upsetting, squaring, rounding, forge welding and riveting, barley twisting. Designed for teens aged 13 to 17 years old, in this three hour workshop you can create a Pendant 9am or a Fire Poker 1pm. Design your own template, with the tutor's assistance, and learn leadlight construction techniques to create it. Your finished piece will be fitted with eyelets so it can be hung in a window space. All works will be cement sealed, lead blackened and polished. If time permits, leftover off-cuts will be copperfoiled and soldered to create a three sided candle-lamp. Your tutor is acclaimed glass artist Richard Apel. He has completed numerous public art commissions including a stained glass chapel window at Wesley Hospital in Brisbane. In 2008, Richard was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to learn centuries old German glass painting and firing techniques at the Schilling factory in Frankfurt.
