Bribie Island Recreation Area is a treasure trove of plants and animals. The island is fringed by white, sandy beaches. Heaths and freshwater lagoons support many birds, while the shore provides food and roosting havens for thousands of shorebirds. Dugong thrive in protected waters nearby. Explore the easy Bicentennial bushwalks. Heathland, eucalypt and paperbark forests offer great birdwatching and photography. Go boating or paddle a kayak around Pumicestone Passage. Try your luck at fishing or crabbing. Picnic at Lighthouse Reach or Lions Park. Pitch a tent at Mission Point - or in one of three other camping areas that are accessible only by four wheel drive. Bribie Island is approximately one hour’s driving distance from Brisbane.

Bribie Island National Park is protected seaside bushland and beachfront that allows visitors to experience beach four-wheel driving (with a valid permit from Queensland National Parks). You can either drive the 'loop', experiencing bush and beach or just stick to the sands for off-road fun along the shore. The drive is quite scenic, consisting of a mix of bushland and pine tree rejuvenation plantations. The inland track provides access to the Gallagher Point and Poverty Creek camping areas, perfect spots for a picnic lunch or morning tea. Lighthouse Reach at the far northern end of the inland track is also a lovely spot to pull over and take a dip in Pumicestone Passage. The Northern Access Track at the far end takes you straight out onto the Bribie Ocean Beach were your beach driving experience can commence!...

If you enjoy a stroll through eucalypt forest and paperbark wetlands, then make your way to the Bribie Island Bicentennial Trail. A 3.8 kilometre circuit, the Bribie Island Bicentennial Trails begin at the Bribie Island Community Arts Centre on Sunderland Drive. The sandy track features Banksia, Palm Grove, and Melaleuca Bribie Island walks which branch-off the main circuit giving visitors the chance to enjoy strolls through eucalypt forests, paperbark wetlands, and even wallum heathlands. Bring a picnic and enjoy a morning of bird spotting!...

Since Matthew Flinders and his crew landed on Bribie Island in 1799, the landscape has changed significantly. To remember the good old days and discover the history of the only sand island connected to the mainland, take a walk along the Bongaree Walkabout. Starting and ending at the Bongaree Jetty, the path takes visitors around the foreshore area where historical landmarks and buildings can be discovered. The Bongaree Walkabout tour takes about an hour to complete, but an idle stroll will take longer, particularly if you like to stop and take photos. The Bongaree Jetty is surrounded by parkland, so it’s a perfect chance to grab a picnic (or visit one of the nearby eating options) and make a day of it with the family....

Nestled on the sand of Ocean Beach rests the retired naval defence fortifications of WWII. This Heritage Listed site remains one of Bribie Islands most important tourist attractions, signifying evidence of war defence preparations. It also provides onlookers with a historical recollection of the arrangement of defence sites constructed during the 1940’s. The main installation of this fortification is located on the north-eastern part of Ocean Beach. Further up, near the northern part of Woorim Beach, rests the shell of the Fort Skirmish bunker. The site of Fort Bribie was built during WWII and became operational in the early months of 1942. This site was built to provide a defence support for the RAN against light raiding warships. This location was abandoned three years later, after its success in fulfilling its intended purpose. The important elements that remain at Fort Bribie include two searchlight posts, an observation post, two mine control huts, a plotting room, two-gun placements, a signals operation room and a water tank. The remaining pieces of this war history is accessible by 4WD to the Ocean Beach Campgrounds. Alternatively, if you like to take a long walk or don’t own a 4WD, walkers can take a 20 kilometre trek from Woorim Beach to this memorable site....

Located in Bongaree (Bribie Island), Red Beach is a dog owners paradise. This eight kilometre beach allows for leashed dogs to run and swim to their heart's content. Not many beaches in South East Queensland are dog friendly, making Red Beach a selling point for the Moreton Bay Region. Red Beach can be accessed from Tully Street, after a walk along a vegetation path that leads out to the sandy shores. This Bribie Island dog-friendly beach generally doesn’t experience rough waves which is perfect for families and dog owners to take a relaxing dip with their pooches. After some kilometres, Red Beach meets up with Woody Bay (close to Woorim Beach). Woody Bay is also a dog-friendly beach, perfect for dog owners who want to take a long walk during low tide with their pooch....
