Established in 1894, Wirra Wirra's ironstone cellars were restored when first cousins Greg and Roger Trott revived the Wirra Wirra (Aboriginal for amongst the gums) operations in 1969. The cellars have been lovingly restored using resurrected timbers from Adelaide's old woolsheds, and the bricks and relics of a condemned Methodist church. Wirra Wirra vineyards is situated three point seven kilometres from the Township of McLaren Vale in South Australia. Over the years Wirra Wirra has developed a strong following for intense, beautifully crafted red wines and espressive whites, forging an enviable reputation as one of Australia's most recognisable and leading wineries. During winter blazing fires welcome visitors and in summer the cellars are wonderfully cool. Our famous woodhenge fence and bell tower are favourites with picnickers, and petanque balls are available to play on the lawns.

Angove Family Winemakers are one of South Australia's oldest family-owned and operated wine companies, established in 1886 by Dr William Thomas Angove. Less than one kilometre from the township of McLaren Vale, the family's historic vineyard on Chalk Hill Road is exceptionally positioned and farmed organically. The Angove McLaren Vale Cellar Door is nestled amongst the vines, and from the stunning terrace you are literally sitting in the middle of the vineyard with panoramic 180 degree views of McLaren Vale. The Jubilee Park Adventure Playground at Port Noarlunga is suitable for all ages, fully fenced, with toilets, barbecue, undercover tables and chairs, an access swing and car parking. There is a nominated toddler area, with a smaller slide and toddler swings, plus a tunnel and bridge. There are lots of seats within the castle for parents to sit and watch their children. Outside of the wooden fortress area is a modern play area with a slide plus some great equipment that twists and turns.

Goodieson Brewery is owned and operated by Jeff Goodieson - Master Brewer with years of brewing and technical experience - and his wife Mary. The brewery is rustic and informal, and visitors are welcome to walk amongst the brewing vessels, smell the smells, and talk to Jeff. There's not much he doesn't know about brewing and what goes on between barley and beer. The current range includes a Pale Ale, a Pilsner, and a Wheat beer, and Jeff guarantees traditional, flavoursome, great tasting beer every time!

The Marienberg Centre is a unique restaurant, wine bar and cellar door complex in the heart of the picturesque McLaren Vale. The centre incorporates the historically significant circa 1850's cottage, which was home to the local stonemason and limeburner, hence the name of the restaurant. The Marienberg Centre offers a cosy wine bar in the cottage, which is attached to the delightfully airy restaurant, showcasing some of the best regional produce the Fleurieu Peninsula has to offer. The Cellar Door facility located adjacent to the restaurant is the home of Marienberg and Fern Hill Estate wines. You are welcome to wander down during lunch and sample the large array of fine wines and local produce they have to offer, along with corporate apparel and souvenirs. Blessed Cheese is the start point of the McLaren Vale Cheese and Wine Trail. Pick up your cheese hamper from Blessed Cheese and enjoy a progressive cheese and wine tasting at some of the best cellar doors in McLaren Vale and surrounds. The hamper includes a selection of local cheeses, olives, dried fruit, almonds and crackers. You can also upgrade to the premium hamper (advance noticed required) which includes smoked salmon, pate, dip, local smallgoods, frittata, antipasto, bread and petit fours. Foggo Wines is located in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine district. They specialise in making super premium wines from some of McLaren Vale's oldest vines. The winery and cellar door are located on the estate vineyard and plantings date back to 1915. Foggo Wines also have estate vineyards at McLaren Flat and Willunga, where 70 percent of the vines are dry grown. Their super premium wines are made with a blend of old, traditional methods and modern wine making techniques. Foggo Wines are only available at their cellar door or via email orders. Foggo Wines is a family run winery and their cellar door is a must for the true wine enthusiast to visit to taste their wines. A range of local produce is also on sale at the cellar door.

If you are interested in fishing, canoeing or photography the spectacular Onkaparinga River Recreation Park is a must. South Australia's second largest river, the Onkaparinga, meanders through gorges before transforming into an entirely different estuary environment of wetland ponds and flood plains. Explore the gentle estuary channels by kayak or canoe. Try your luck fishing. Ride along the cycle trails and see a variety of bird life on the river and in the ponds along the trail. Dyson Wines were established in 1977 and specialise in the production of dry grown, single vineyard, 100 percent premium variety red and white table wines. Varieties produced are Chardonnay, Viognier, White Port, Cabernet Sauvignon and Liqueur Chardonnay. All wines are handmade and estate produced. Dyson Wines are open for tasting and sales.

Oxenberry wines is a small winemaking operation by McLaren Vale born and bred winemaking duo, the Scarpantoni brothers, and is based at the historic site of McLaren Vale's first settlers in 1840, Oxenberry Farm. The Oxenberry Farm cellar door has an exceptional outlook across vineyards and wetland area, complete with resident duck population. All wines are available to taste or enjoy by the glass and by the bottle whilst taking in the views from the veranda or in our unique wine lounge, The Colton Room; the perfect place to experience our structured Liqueur Muscat and Single Origin Chocolate tastings. The Oxenberry range highlights the long established McLaren Vale performers of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Chardonnay, along with the more recent arrivals to Australia of Tempranillo and Pinot Grigio. These limited-production wines are only available via the Oxenberry Farm Cellar door and by mail order.

McLaren Vale's Carriage Cafe is a cafe, old fashioned milk bar and so much more. Join us at the Carriage Cafe, a family run cafe situated inside an old, 1908 South Australian railway carriage that was in service for many years, including forming part of the 1936 South Australian Centenary Train, before being converted into a charming and quaint little restaurant. Visit us for lunch, afternoon tea or sample our all day breakfast menu. We've also got the biggest range of milkshakes around, currently in excess of 100 flavours. Hop aboard and take the trip into the past with us today. Maximus Wines is located in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region. Wines are crafted to perfectly reflect the terroir of the vineyard and the nurturing provided there. Maximus has a full range of red and white wines to enjoy in a free tasting. Guests are also welcome to stay and take advantage of the wonderful views in a shaded picnic area, use the new barbecue facilities or relax with a cheese platter and a bottle of Maximus Wine. The premier and original open market of the Fleurieu Peninsula has been operating since 1982. It is held on the first and third Sunday of each month from 9am to 1pm. Stalls consist of fresh fruit and vegetables, plants, arts and crafts, antiques, collector's items, bric a brac and other second hand items. ' Local life saving clubs and Coastguard offer sausage sizzles to raise funds for their community charity. All monies raised are donated to local organisations and charities in the City of Onkaparinga. At present in excess of AUD190,000 has been donated. City of Onkaparinga 2008 Community Event of the Year Award.

The Reynella Winery is the site of oldest wine business in South Australia, established by John Reynell in 1838. After passing through several hands, the Hardy family purchased the business in 1982. Hardys association with Reynella dates from 1850 when pioneer and founder Thomas Hardy, worked for John Reynell during his first six months in Australia. Today, the historic Reynella Winery and Cellar Door remains a premier wine tourism destination. Cellar Door is also adjacent to many historic structures including the grand Reynell Homestead which dates from 1842 and Cellar Number One which dates from 1845. The Old Cave as it is more affectionately known is listed with the National Trust and is the oldest working wine cellar in Australia. The Reynella Winery provides the ultimate in winery locations for garden ceremonies, wedding receptions or corporate function. The Lloyd Brothers Wine and Olive Company is located just 40-minutes from Adelaide. The Mediterranean climate offered by this region is the perfect location to grow the finest fruit and for more than 100 years, olives have been grown on this property. Alongside the property's olive grove is a 30 acre Shiraz vineyard producing grapes for their complete range of Shiraz wines as well as a number of different Shiraz based food products such as jams and sauces. The Cellar Door is open seven days and visitors are invited to sample their complete range of products which include olives, oils, pesto's, vinegars, wines, Australian alpaca products and olive oil based body care products. With a focus on quality Lloyd Brothers have specifically limited their production to reflect this approach and as such their products are only sold through the cellar door and web site and a few specialist stockists.

The d'Arenberg Cellar Door offers a truly unique wine tasting experience, with over 35 wines made from more than 25 grape varieties. Established in 1912, this fourth generation family owned winery has paved the way for many alternative varieties in the region, achieving worldwide acclaim for their white and red wines. The cellar door and restaurant are located in a nineteenth century homestead with stunning views of the rolling hills and endless vineyards of McLaren Vale. D'Arry's Verandah Restaurant is an award-winning restaurant specialising in regionally inspired cuisine based around the extensive d'Arenberg wine range. Australian Boutique Premium Wines is a small boutique vineyard and cellar door representing our own labels and boutique local wines with little exposure. Our speciality is wine education with emphasis on style and structure. There is a wide tasting list including our own aged fortified wines. The wines have all been personally selected by the owner from his many trips around Australia.

Coriole Vineyards was established by the Lloyd family in 1967 overlooking the McLaren Vale region and the Gulf of St Vincent. The area is one of Australia's oldest and best known wine regions. The flagship wine is Coriole Shiraz, produced since 1970. The wine from the oldest vineyard, planted in 1920, is bottled separately as Lloyd Reserve Shiraz. More recently Coriole led the way in Australia with Italian varieties, planting Sangiovese in 1985. The major white variety is Chenin Blanc. Coriole's wines are sold throughout Australia and in many countries worldwide. Coriole has a landmark cottage garden spread around a heritage listed barn and cottage dating from the 1860s. Wine is not the only passion of the Lloyd family. Premium olive oils and vinegars are also produced. Olives are sourced from surrounding olive groves, including one at Coriole.

Port Noarlunga is located approximately 30 kilometres south of Adelaide and was originally created as a sea port. The picturesque steep red sandstone cliffs of Port Noarlunga and long jetty provide visitors with scenic walks and a place to fish. The Port Noarlunga reef and aquatic reserve are recognised as a popular diving location; they also shelter the beach from large waves.

Braydun Hill vineyard is situated next to the Onkaparinga Gorge National Park, overlooking McLaren Vale and Willunga townships to the south and the Onkaparinga estuary and the ocean to the west. For many generations, Braydun Hill has been used as a grazing property, for cattle, sheep and angora goats. The ideal grape growing position led to the decision to plant the vineyard in the mid 1990s, and in 1998 the first vines were planted. The decision was made at the time to aim to produce top quality grapes to make the very best full bodied red wine, namely Shiraz. Braydun Hill does not grow any white varieties, as the vineyard is perfect for top quality red. Their philosophy is to do one thing and to excel. Shiraz lovers are welcome to visit, tour the vineyard and sample their premium wine. The small, cosy cellar door is open most weekends.

Chalk Hill Wines is a family owned company dedicated to making small batch, hand crafted wines of distinction. The Harvey family grape growing heritage goes back six generations in South Australia. Brick Kiln Wines has established a cellar door outlet at Red Poles Cafe and Art Gallery on McMurtrie Road in McLaren Vale. Hugo Wines is a small family owned winery set in the foothills above McLaren Vale. The vineyard was established by the owner John Hugo's father, Colin, in 1950 and now covers 30 hectares. Mitolo Wines is set within the McLaren Vale wine region. With its rolling hills, proximity to the seaside, and ancient, yet fertile soils, McLaren Vale reminds owner Frank Mitolo in many ways of the coastal towns of his parents’ Italian homeland, Abruzzo.

After years of working with his father in his potato business, Frank started making his own wine in 1995. For the first few years he operated on a small scale until when in 1999 he was introduced to one of Australia’s future winemaking talents, Ben Glaetzer.  During a now legendary five-hour discussion over a restaurant table and quite a few bottles of Shiraz, they fashioned a dream of making the ultimate expression of McLaren Vale’s rich provenance of soils, and taking these wines to the world.

Frank sources his grapes from an old friend of his father’s, Don Lopresti, an Italian migrant of the 1950’s. Don, along with his two sons Joe and Michael, have an affinity with their land, and through simple practices and hard work produce fruit of the highest quality. The fruit here is the essence of Mitolo, with a depth of flavour garnered from heavy clay soils, yet freshness thanks to the gentle afternoon sea breeze that tempers the hot summer sun. Ben and Frank work closely with the Lopresti’s, picking the grapes when they are “flavour ripe” not simply at the right Baume level. They also take a very ‘hands-off’ approach in the winery, fermenting cool to retain purity, and using a range of barrel coopers to generate complexity yet respect and enhance the fruit.

The first wine Frank produced, the 2000 G.A.M. Shiraz, was named after his children Gemma, Alex and Marco. Since then another ten wines have been added to the range, each with its own distinct personality and story. Frank’s Italian heritage runs strongly through the range: they use the Italian varietals Vermentino and Sangiovese and the Italian appassimento technique of drying fruit to make the Jester Cabernet and Serpico wine. But perhaps most importantly of all, Mitolo wines are made to suit the Italian foods of Frank’s homeland.

Every new vintage of Mitolo is a reminder of Frank’s viticultural lineage and his parents’ humble beginnings. The Mitolo business meetings are still held around the kitchen table over Sunday lunch, served with the foods of their heritage and wine. At the heart of it all, in the wine style, in the people, is the motto that Frank’s father brought with him from Abruzzo - forte a gentile: strong and gentle.

Bordering St Vincent's Gulf, 40 kilometres south of Adelaide, Amery Vineyards grace the rolling foothills of the southern Mount Lofty Ranges. Established in 1890 by Australian born Herbert and Frederick Kay the heritage listed Kays Amery Winery is the oldest McLaren Vale winery still in founding family hands with third generation Colin Kay continuing the family tradition. The cellars are located at the top of a hill and the cellar door, which is part of the original winery complex, boasts some stunning panoramic views. If they put deckchairs there no one would ever leave. The welcome at the cellar door is as friendly as the view is seductive, so allow plenty of time to taste the renowned selection of premium estate wines and explore the family diaries dating from 1891.

DogRidge is a grape and wine producer specializing in the juicier varieties and blends that capture McLaren Vale’s elegance, perfume and food-friendly charm.  DogRidge started when David and Jen Wright discovered their first 40 acre vineyard in the ancient soils of McLaren Flat’s Kurragong Formation.  The DogRidge family grew and , in 2005 Fred and Sarah Howard joined in with the sole ambition to make great McLaren Vale wines.  The cellar door was born and shortly after, the art gallery.
