Georges River National Park, south of Sydney, is a popular place for a family day out in the great outdoors. The landscape of the park includes striking rock formations, steep forested hillsides, plateaus and riverside flats, providing ample opportunities for picnics, barbecues, fishing and walking. If you’re interested in birdwatching, be sure to walk the Yeramba Lagoon track – you’re bound to see lots of birds; more than 100 species have been recorded – including pink robins and grey fantails. It's a good place for some waterskiing, jetskiing and taking a boat out, you can launch your boat from the ramp. It’s also a pleasant place for a spot of kayaking or canoeing, and there are lots of scenic spots you can stop at along the way....

Fitzpatrick Park picnic area at Picnic Point is a great place for a family barbecue not far from Sydney. Enjoy a barbecue, go fishing or enjoy a spot of paddling. The flat expanse at this picnic area is a great place for the kids to kick a ball or throw a Frisbee to work up an appetite. After a tasty picnic or barbecue lunch, relax on your picnic rug, take in some sunshine or set off on an exploration of the park – there’s heaps to do including the nearby Yeramba Lagoon loop track. Fitzpatrick Park is just the place for a spot of family fishing – cast a line to try your hand at catching a luderick, mullet or mulloway. If you’d like to go on a boating or paddling adventure, you can launch your canoe or kayak from the nearby boat ramp....

This short walk along both the river and the ridge packs in plenty to see. There are some interesting rock formations along the way plus you'll enjoy scenic views of the river through the foliage. There are also some great examples of mosses and fungi lining the path that are sure to impress every keen naturalist. Starting from Burrawang Reach picnic area, this short walk finishes at Cattle Duffers Flat picnic area, where you can stop to refuel before getting back on the track for the return walk. Alternatively, head back along the trail which follows the rivers edge for a loop walk....

Burrawang Reach picnic area is a popular spot for a picnic or barbecue. Set on the sandy shores of George’s River, you can fish and paddle nearby. Whether you arrive on your water skis, in your kayak or walk in, this picnic spot won’t disappoint. It’s in the western most part of the park, so you can only get there on water or on a short walk from your vehicle. Not only is Burrawang Reach picnic area a great spot to pause and moor your vessel, the picnic area is a perfect place to set up for the day, with tall shady trees, safe fishing spots and plenty of birdlife to keep you engrossed for hours. There’s ample room for a family gathering and you can use the barbecues or bring along a spread to share on the wide stretch of grass. After lunch take a walk along the Ridge track to Cattle Duffers Flat picnic area....

When you’re visiting Georges River National Park, be sure to walk the Yeramba Lagoon loop track. This short walk takes you through some wonderful and diverse bushland, taking in grassy woodlands as well as saltwater and freshwater wetlands. It’s an important habitat for birds, with 100 species having been recorded. You’re likely to see kookaburras, crimson rosellas and rainbow lorikeets in the trees around you, along with black swans, white-faced herons and royal spoonbills by the water. As you wind around the lagoon, take in the view out across the lagoon – it’s amazing to think that you are just outside the city of Sydney. You may also notice small orchids, banksia flowers, long-necked turtles and blue tongue lizards along this scenic walk. Pack a picnic and head to Fitzpatrick Park or Burrawang Reach picnic area once you are finished....
