Rockingham Golf Club Logo and Images

Rockingham Golf Club

Elanora Drive, Rockingham WA 6168

Rockingham, 28th July 1947 at the Trocaster Tearoom, now the Boardwalk, 24 interested persons gathered together to discuss the organisation to build a golf course. The first 9 holes were roughly bulldozed out of the sand dunes and the Rockingham Hotel was the golfers’ clubhouse.

A lease for 200 acres was granted and the Rockingham Districts Golf Club became incorporated. An 18 hole golf course was designed by Tom Howard and work was started by members and machinery on loan. Golf rules were adopted – Pennant teams were formed. The clubhouse was opened by Governor Sir Charles Gairdner in 1958. The Rockingham Golf Club Incorporated had the reputation for friendliness, hospitality and well run competitions.

On the 9th March 1985, Rockingham Golf Club Inc. moved from the corner of Patterson Road and Read Street to it’s current location at Elanora Drive. The course was designed by Murray Dawson, a leading golf course architect. The course was carved out of virgin bush and on Opening Day, at least 400 golf balls were lost! This has in time been rectified, and we now enjoy a fairly flat golf course of which hole 1 to 9 can be classed as golf link and 10 to 18 with more trees and better soil. As a golf course, our greens are second to none, and have been made more interesting by design. We have all kinds of bunkers, and the wildlife birds and kangaroos. The kangaroos are not tame, although if you walk round with your golf clubs, they will more likely become your audience rather than run away.

The clubhouse is large and airy, with friendly and hospitable members continuing the traditions of founder members welcoming visitors and friends.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
