The design, by Architect Peter Parkinson of FGB Hawkins and Desmond Sands, is post-war international style. It was based on the Corbusier Modular design system, a system of proportioning which combines the Fibonacci number system with the average dimensions of the human body. The Town Hall was constructed within the Rankin Gardens which are bound by Hammersley, Hensman, Bagot and Rokeby Roads. Rankin Gardens and the buildings within form the Subiaco Civic Precinct.

Reabold Hill, located in Bold Park in Floreat, is the highest natural point on the Swan Coastal Plain in the metropolitan area, and at 85 metres it offers sweeping views over the Indian Ocean, Perth and beyond to the Darling Scarp with glimpses of the Swan River. The easy 200 metre Top Trail is accessible via Scenic Drive off Oceanic Drive. The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, which manages Bold Park, initiated the Reabold Hill Enhancement Project in 2002 to provide improved visitor facilities, public safety and access for all to the lookout. The elevated boardwalk, which is wheelchair accessible, immerses visitors in a bushland experience as they journey to the summit. Stretching over 200 metres, the boardwalk incorporates interpretive signs, seating, artwork inspired by life in a Tuart tree and 14 timber landings to take in the views. Restoration planting using local, indigenous plants enhances the existing flora which features banksias, wattles, quandongs and other limestone loving plants such as the Cockies Tongue. Please note that vehicle access to Reabold Hill is restricted to the following times: 1 April to 30 September 7am to 6pm and 1 October to 31 March 6am to 8pm.

Ride the Sunset Coast - Marmion to Burns Beach

Located on the west coast, Perth is privileged to have fantastic beaches, sunsets over the Indian Ocean and the Ride the Sunset Coast cycleway that ventures for many kilometres along the coast of Perth. The 14 kilometre section from Marmion to Burns Beach is an easy, half day urban walk or cycle that contains many of the highlights including Hillarys Marina, Marmion Marine Park, Tom Simpson Park, Burns Beach and other beautiful beaches and coastal vegetation. The trail begins at the Marmion Marine Park, a wonderful area for snorkelling in summer. Just north is Hillarys Boat Harbour - with many cafes, shops and calm swimming area. Further north is Tom Simpson Park and Mullaloo Beach, a great place for a swim and coffee. From here, the trail north to Burns weaves through a natural coastline offering an environment rich in biodiversity and spectacular ocean views. Fishing areas, swimming beaches, lookouts, toilets, pubs, kiosks and stores, can all be seen along this wheelchair accessible trail or alternatively via a nice drive all the way up the coast.

There's plenty of parking at City Beach which is about a 15 minute drive from Perth.

Enjoy Perth's famous treetop walk, taking in the spectacular views along the Lotterywest Federation Walkway. Extending 620 metres through Kings Park, the numerous lookouts provide breathtaking views of Perth City, the Mt Eliza escarpment and surrounding rivers. A 222 metre long elevated section with a 16 metre above ground suspension bridge, offers a bird's eye view of a canopy of tall eucalypts. The walk takes around 40 minutes to complete, and begins adjacent to the Lord Forrest statue. You will pass by several beautiful wildflower gardens, across the Tuart Lawn, alongside the tranquil Water Garden valley before entering the cathedral of the Marri woodland forest. With the interpretive signage provided, you will be able to gain a greater insight into the flora, fauna, Aboriginal culture and fascinating history of the area. Nyoongar Aboriginal art, the inspiring landscaping and artistic drawings on the steel bridge pylons create a visually enthralling experience. Kings Park is an easy walk or cycle from the city; it is also well serviced by buses.

Law Walk and the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, Kings Park provides the best of both worlds. The manicured gardens and views of Kings Park transition to natural bush including a bird's eye view of what the Perth bushland was like more than 200 years ago. Commencing at the entrance to the Botanic Garden on Fraser Avenue, Law Walk continues to the Dryandra lookout via a paved path (that's steep in places) through the bushland on the edge of the Mt Eliza escarpment. The easy return walk is on a sandy trail through the bush, rejoining the paved path. It joins up with the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, which includes an elevated walk through the Botanic Garden and a tree top view of majestic marri and jarrah trees. When combined, these Top Trails take approximately 1.5 hours (3.7 kilometres) to complete. Along both walks there're spectacular views of Kings Park, Perth City, Matilda Bay, the Swan and Canning Rivers. The lookouts have interpretive signs; trees, shrubs and Indigenous stories are identified and explained in relevant places along the walks. These walks provide a wonderful insight into the special Western Australian environment, and provide one of the best experiences possible in the city area.

The wildflower display between July and October is spectacular. Guided walks take you deep into the park along various nature trails to view the unique native flora. Discover the history of the park that was established in 1892 and visit the memorials which have been erected as a tribute to various significant people and events in Western Australia. The free guided walks start at the park's information centre at 10am or 2pm every day of the week. Whilst there, collect information about the many other attractions within the park. Kings Park overlooks the city of Perth and the Swan River and offers magnificent panoramic views. It is a short five minute drive or 30 minute walk west of the city, and is also linked in on the free city bus service.
