Carrick Hill is fortunate in being one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents almost completely intact and its grounds undiminished.

The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden overlooking the Piccadilly Valley features displays of cool temperate plants, which thrive on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty. Spring and autumn in the Garden are both magnificent, with stunning mass displays of magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias and roses adding a splash of colour to the gardens. The sweet scented ATCO Heritage Rose Garden, featuring both modern and old-fashioned roses is particularly popular. Several picturesque walking trails take you up and down the gardens seven valleys, including the Fern Gully - home to one of the richest collections of ferns in Australia. The Bank SA Nature Trail is wonderful at all times of the year allowing visitors to experience the diversity of original plants in the Garden. There is something for everyone at the Marion Indoor Market. Buy jewellery, clothes, books, ornaments, toys, bric-a-brac, art, antiques, fruit, vegetables, plants, show bags, collectables, gifts and more. There are over 100 traders. The market dates for 2011 are Sunday 25 September, 23 October and 27 November. Commencing 15 January 2012 the market will be held on every 3 Sunday in the month. Entry is free, and food and drinks are available for purchase.

The Marion Cultural Centre has been internationally recognised and was one of 12 Australian buildings selected to feature in the Australian Pavilion at the 2006 Venice Architecture Biennale. It is only 15 minutes from the Central Business District. The Marion Cultural Centre comprises a theatre, meeting rooms, art gallery, café, foyer, plaza and the Marion Library. Old Government House lies in the heart of Belair National Park, 11 kilometres south of Adelaide. It was built on the Government Farm as South Australia's first official vice-regal summer cottage residence (1860-1880), and was used by some of the early governors of South Australia; MacDonnell (1855-62) and Daly (1862-68). The Old Government House buildings now reflect how the wealthy of the Victorian era lived, with the main house displaying the style and accoutrements of the well-to-do and the servants' quarters the more modest furnishings of a working family. Featuring an elegant terrace and South Australia's first indoor plunge pool it stands as an excellent example of Victorian-style architecture. Visitors can also take a leisurely stroll through the one-acre garden; featuring a collection of cottage plants and flowers as cultivated in Victorian times, heritage roses and mature trees. The buildings are open on Sundays and public holidays from 1pm to 4pm. Guides from the 'Friends of Old Government House' conduct tours and show the different styles and furnishings in each building and share fascinating stories about this grand residence.
