We have a fleet of 20 runabouts (tinnies) and 2 party boats available for hire. Take out a boat for the day to explore the Hawkesbury River or to go fishing.

A wide range of bait and tackle is available in the shop, plus ice, groceries and food and drinks.

The ferry provides access to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park for bushwalkers, or bring a picnic and relax by the water at any of the beautiful picnic spots. The ferry service also operates a school run to Newport School for primary aged school children, and has a newspaper run in the morning and a mail run in the afternoon.

The Palm Beach Golf Club enjoys an exquisite advantage of location, being only a fifty-minute drive from the commercial heartland of Sydney. The sprawling nine hole course is a championship level layout overlooking the picturesque Northern Beaches. The club is sheltered by the Barrenjoey Lighthouse, cradled between the Pittwater and Palm Beach. The clubhouse also provides a range of golfing equipments and accessories, like golf carts and clothes. To the uninitiated this relatively flat course appears to be a bit of a 'doddle' at first, however as shown with past Pro-Ams very rarely under competition set up is the course par of 64 achieved. This 4,176 metre course has given many good golfers a basic lesson in course management, a fact that is further attested to with its revised layout record of 59.

The direct train from Central Station in Sydney departs 8.45am, usually platform 12. The boats are large, stable and comfortable catamarans, each with a well-stocked bar on board so you can have a glass of wine or beer with your lunch. Bookings are essential for catering purposes, but payment is made on the day of travel. They look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Mona Vale is effectively two separate beaches separated by a broad ocean rock platform. Waves that roll in along the southern edge of the platform surge into a gully that allows them to break smoothly and with considerable power. The undertow this creates can be troublesome to swimmers, so it’s just as well the gully is right beside the surf club’s patrolled swimming area. Heading south towards Warriewood, Mona Vale opens up as a series of fun, uncrowded beach breaks known as Cooks Terrace. The bay to the north of Mona Vale proper is called The Basin, and here you’ll find a small right-hand reef break, perfect for cruising on a long board. Newport faces due east so is open to swell coming from any direction. A jumble of rocks 250 metres south of the north headland known as The Peak shapes two separate breaks that attract a highly skilled local surfing tribe. Waves along the middle section of the beach are dependent on sandbanks and tend to close out without offering much for board-riders, but that leaves more room for swimmers and body-boarders. The south headland peters out into a part-submerged reef extending 450 metres out to sea, creating breaks in multiple directions which locals refer to as "crosswaves". One of Newport's most distinctive features is a broad flat rock platform at the south end of the beach. The full-size saltwater lap pool atop the platform is an iconic feature of Sydney's northern beaches, having been a favourite subject of revered Australian photographer Max Dupain in the 1930s and 1950s....

The Newport Surf Club will hold their annual Pool to Peak Ocean Swims in January. There is an 800 metre course as well as a two kilometre course. Entries are available online through the website. You can also enter on the day at the surf club. Please remember the 800 metre swim will start at 9am so you have to be registered and at the start line by 8.50am. The two kilometre swim will start at 10am and there will be groupings by age. There are some wonderful prizes to be won via a lucky draw. Over the last decade or so Avalon has become the favoured "sea-change" destination for Sydney-siders looking to adopt the surfer lifestyle. As a result, the board-riding community here is large and enthusiastic but the skill level varies greatly so it's a good idea to watch for a bit before paddling into the fray. North Avalon breaks along the north headland and a nearby sandbank and attracts lots of older longboarders who don't always succeed in getting out of each other's way. South Avalon is centred on a triangle-shaped sandbank near the 25 metre ocean rock pool (free entry) that generates a mix of fun easy waves. From the end of Patonga Beach, follow signs to the national park. You can head to Warrah Trig from here, while following the steep trail up and over the hill will take you past the spectacular Warrah lookout with views of Hawkesbury River and Pacific Ocean. Pause for a snack, then return to the fire trail, following the Pearl Beach signs past sandstone caves with a natural hanging garden of native ferns. Be sure to keep an eye out for bush turkeys and an ear open for kookaburras. Your exit is marked at Crystal Avenue. Follow the sounds of crashing waves to find a beautiful stretch of sand on the edge of the bush. You can enjoy a picnic, or take advantage of the small cafes nearby....

Barrenjoey Lighthouse sits at Sydney’s most northern point - Barrenjoey Head at Palm Beach. Positioned 91 metres above sea level, the lighthouse can be reached by a couple of walks. Take the picturesque one kilometre walking track to the top, which is an easy walk offering outstanding views along the track. Or for those who are keen for a challenging short hike, take the Smugglers track to the top. Getting its name from the customs officers who built the track around 1850 to monitor any smugglers bringing contraband into Broken Bay, it now offers a steeper and shorter trek to the lighthouse. Mona Vale is effectively two separate beaches separated by a broad ocean rock platform. Waves that roll in along the southern edge of the platform surge into a gully that allows them to break smoothly and with considerable power. The undertow this creates can be troublesome to swimmers, so it’s just as well the gully is right beside the surf club’s patrolled swimming area. Heading south towards Warriewood, Mona Vale opens up as a series of fun, uncrowded beach breaks known as Cooks Terrace. The bay to the north of Mona Vale proper is called The Basin, and here you’ll find a small right-hand reef break, perfect for cruising on a long board. This cycling loop takes in the best the national park has to offer, crossing several fire trails and pausing for scenic views at Warrah lookout. With so much ground to cover, feel free to do as much or as little as you like. Be sure to make time for birdwatching though, or a relaxing picnic lunch among the famous wildflowers. And keep an eye out for animals – with 270 native species in the park, there’s a good chance you’ll come across at least a kangaroo, and maybe even a koala. Start at Warrah Trig and pedal furiously to Patonga Drive. Tear down Sani Depot and Van Dahls trails, admiring the wildflowers that are scattered along the way. Once you get back to Patonga Drive, you’ll tackle an exciting downhill run to beautiful Pearl Beach, where the Patonga trail will lead you to the Warrah lookout and spectacular views up Hawkesbury River.
