BTS Tours Pty Ltd

49 Macrossan Street, Port Douglas QLD 4877

Based in Port Douglas, BTS Tours have been operating specialised rainforest tours to the Daintree Rainforest since 1985.

The Daintree Rainforest tour explores the different habitats that combine to create and sustain the tropical rainforest environment. Expert naturalist guides distinguish flora and wildlife of the Daintree's wet tropic lowlands and the mysteries of its evolution and survival over millions of years. The Daintree is a remnant from the break up of Gondwanaland. Gondwanaland was the southernmost of two super continents that included what is now the southern Hemisphere of our planet.

The World Heritage Daintree Rainforest is a pocket of ancient tropical rain forest locked in a biological time capsule on the driest continent on earth where ancient species have somehow survived the ravages of time since the Gondwana break up.

Port Douglas War Memorial Logo and Images

Port Douglas War Memorial

Wharf Street, Corner of Macrossan Street, Anzac Park, Port Douglas QLD 4877

Around 300 people gathered in Port Douglas on Saturday 10 February 1923 to witness the unveiling of the war memorial, funded by the ladies of the Port Douglas Red Cross Society. Special trains had been put on to ferry passengers from Mosman and Mowbray. Mrs Catherine Trezise of Mowbray, whose son Joseph had been the first of the district to fall, performed the unveiling. He had died of illness in Malta in November 1915. The memorial featured a soldier statue, facing east, on a high stone base. On the front was a slab with the names of soldiers from the region who had lost their lives. At the time the locality was within Macrossan Street. The post office used to be located on this corner. By 1947 a request was made by the progress association to have the land now known as ANZAC park transferred from the Commonwealth. At the time it remained a customs reserve. Eventually the land was transferred and on ANZAC Day in 1950 commemoration services were held in the newly named Anzac Memorial Park on the waterfront. Repairs were made to the soldier statue at the time and plans were made to beautify the park.

Nursery Bommie Dive Site

Agincourt Reefs, Port Douglas QLD 4877
One of the most impressive dive sites on the Agincourt Reefs, off Port Douglas, is a large pinnacle called Nursery Bommie. This column of coral rises from 2 metres to 25 metres and is decorated with sea whips, soft corals and gorgonians, but it is the fish life that will be most remembered. At the base of the bommie is always a school of colourful blue-striped snapper, but also common are barracuda, trevally, surgeonfish and fusiliers. Cut by numerous ledges, make sure you check these out as you are likely to see rock cod, lionfish, coral cod, nudibranchs and maybe a lovely leaf scorpionfish. The top of Nursery Bommie is home to hundreds of fairy basslets and also a massive school of snubnose drummer, making for a very memorable dive.

Repairs were made to the soldier statue at the time and plans were made to beautify the park. ...
