Starting life in 1909 as the Imperial Hotel, the Thunderbolt Inn is an historic Victorian style hotel situated in the centre of Uralla, at the corner of the New England Highway and Thunderbolt's Way. The hotel received its current name in 1970, on the anniversary of the death of the gentleman bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt, who ruled the highways and byways of the New England district during the 1860s. Great counter meals daily, dining room is open seven days for lunch and dinner. In winter, the roaring fires create a warm homely atmosphere. Officially named the Coachwood and Cedar Hotel, the 'Top Pub' is located in the main street of Uralla. Constructed around 1881, the building was originally called the Great Northern Hotel and was of single ground floor construction, the second floor was added in 1904 and the name changed to the Commercial Hotel. The Top Pub offers a beautiful undercover beer garden, which has a fully fenced children's play area, complete with a cubbyhouse and toys. The pub has a bottle shop, a TAB, a large screen television with Sky and Fox, and pool tables. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Monday to Sunday. Thunderbolt's Grave

The last of the New South Wales bushrangers, Frederick Wordsworth Ward, better known as "Captain Thunderbolt", ruled the highways and byways of the New England region and beyond for much of the 1860s. He met an untimely death when shot and killed by Constable Alexander Walker on 25 May, 1870 at Kentucky Creek, near Uralla. His remains were laid to rest in a quiet ceremony at the Uralla Pioneer Cemetery in John Street. The headstone was erected fifty years later by residents of Uralla after funds were collected by public appeal. There is now controversy over who is actually buried in the grave ... or whether anyone is buried there at all!...

The Wooldridge Recreation and Fossicking Reserve is located approximately six kilometres from Uralla township along the Kingstown Road. It offers ample parking for caravans and campervans, free camping, toilet facilities, picnic tables, wood fired barbecues (subject to fire restrictions) and fresh drinking water. Relax under the ghost gums on a hot summer?s day and be serenaded by the variety of bird life that calls the reserve home. Be sure to keep an eye out for the occasional kangaroo or wallaby passing through. Gold pans are available for hire at the Uralla Visitor Information Centre for a nominal charge and a map to the area can be provided. Try your hand at panning for gold or semi-precious gems. Pets are allowed into the reserve, but owners are requested to keep them on a leash at all times. Please use the rubbish bins provided to dispose of litter. Shooting is prohibited. To get to Wooldridge Recreation and Fossicking Reserve, drive along the Kingstown Road for approximately 4.5 kilometres, then turn right into Devoncourt Road and follow to the end. McCrossin's Mill Museum

Built in 1870, McCrossin's Mill is a lovingly restored three storey flour mill which now houses a multi-award winning museum, gallery and function centre. Many locals once believed the "Old Mill" to be haunted. Now it is hauntingly beautiful. Occupying the ground floor, a series of nine paintings by artist Phillip Pomeroy depict the fatal events of 25th May 1870, when Constable Alexander Walker brought an end to the reign of gentleman bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt. Upstairs, the museum is renowned for its empathic, humorous and even bizarre exhibitions. Its collection of Chinese artefacts from the Rocky River goldfields is recognised as being of national significance. Other exhibitions include "The Life and Legend of Thunderbolt"; "A Red Rose... Corporal Cecil Stoker's Story"; and "Trickett's Triumph", Australia's first World Champion sportsman....

Established during the 1880s, Alma Park received its name in 1893 when local school children assembled to plant one hundred trees within its grounds. The first tree was planted by Alma O'Connor, daughter of the Mayor, Alderman O'Connor, and the park now bears her name in remembrance of the occasion. In springtime, brightly coloured flower beds complement the many grand old trees planted by Alma and her friends all those years ago. A meandering pathway leads visitors past a locally forged iron lace rotunda and down to the picturesque Uralla Creek where an ageing footbridge beckons walkers to continue on to the slightly more challenging walk around nearby Mount Mutton.
