Return to the Bruce Highway (M1) to the base of the Glasshouse Mountains and on to Beerburrum, the first Soldier Settlement town established in Queensland. Beerburrum's Memorial Trees commemorate the loss of friends of the early residents. Drive along the Bruce Highway to Eumundi where another avenue of memorial trees graces the main street and provides shade for visitors to the town's famous markets. Gympie Memorial Park and Gates provide a further welcome break on the highway as you travel north, before arriving at the heritage town of Maryborough and visiting its spectacular 'winged victory' memorial in Queens Park. A number of smaller towns further north include Howard, Apple Tree Creek and Brooweena. All have an interesting array of soldier statue memorials.
