A sealed road runs through the centre of Macleay from the ferry terminal in the south to Pat's Point picnic and swimming area in the north. A causeway connects Macleay to the quaint island of Perulpa, which in Aboriginal means "the island off the island". There is a nine hole golf club and a well known bowls club which has the most spectacular bay views. Macleay itself has around 2200 permanent residents, and is a relaxed and peaceful destination for a day trip or short break.
