Stonehouse

Pituri Street, Boulia QLD 4829
When Boulia storekeeper James Edward Jones built his home in 1888, little did he know that it would become one of Western Queensland's major attractions. The building was constructed as a family dwelling and now boasts an array of history surrounding the Jones family and early settlement life in Boulia. Situated on the corner of Pituri and Hamilton Streets, the Stone-house has been heritage listed by the National Trust as a building of interest, as it was one of the first homes built in Western Queensland and because of its unique design which keeps out the harsh summer heat. There's also Aboriginal artefacts and photographs relating to the Pitta Pitta tribe hosed in other buildings on the site. Set in the grounds of the Stonehouse is an extensive display of dinosaur fossils from the Boulia area. A new discovery of an adult Icthyosaur skull found to the south of Boulia now takes pride of place in the museum's display. The fossil displays are some of the best you will see in Western Queensland. Visitors are guaranteed to be impressed by the remains of large fossil marine reptiles, sharks and fish and a very expert retelling of their history. ...
