Blackwattle Farm is situated on 20 acres of farmland at the base of the beautiful Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast. It is only 10 minutes to Australia Zoo, 20 minutes from the beaches and hinterland., and less than an hour from Brisbane airport. They provide two types of accommodation, queen suite and self contained cabins, catering for couples, solo travelers, families and groups of friends. They have a variety of farm animals including miniature pigs, alpaccas, dexter cows, and chickens. All guests are welcome to help them feed the animals in the afternoons, and have full access to the farm and gardens. They provide breakfast with local produce and homemade jams, and can organise barbecue packs and other meals upon request. It is very private and quiet, and is the perfect place to stay to simply relax, or use a base to explore the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Crikey! The countdown has begun for Steve Irwin Day on 15 November - an international and annual event to celebrate the extraordinary life of the one and only Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. The day will represent the many things Steve was passionate about: family, wildlife conservation and fun. Steve Irwin Day is also a day where people around the world join together to raise money for Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors to help continue Steve's conservation work and the preservation of wildlife and wild places. There will be stacks of fun activities on Steve Irwin Day, all focused on celebrating and remembering the life of Steve Irwin!...

Mount Tibrogargan walking circuit is located within the Glass House Mountains National Park. Volcanic peaks tower above the surrounding landscape are so significant; they are listed on the Queensland and National Heritage Register as a landscape of national significance. Walking tracks, ranging from easy to very challenging, lead through open forests to lookouts offering panoramic views. Named by Cook during his voyage along Australia's east coast, they are rhyolitic volcanic plugs left by volcanic activity millions of years ago. This area has special significance for the Gubbi Gubbi Aboriginal people. Tibrogargan walking circuit (800 metres to the Mountain View lookout, 3.3 kilometres for the complete circuit) begins from the northern end of the Mount Tibrogargan car park. Short walk leads up to the Mountain View lookout with views over Mount Beerwah, Mount Coonowrin, Mount Tibberoowuccum and Mount Tunbubudla. Follow the walking track around the base of Mount Tibrogargan through casuarina groves, open eucalypt and melaleuca forests. The track provides some great views of Mount Tibrogargan. Peregrine falcons are often seen soaring above this area. Allow one and a half hours to complete this circuit of a moderate grade. Allow ten minutes if you prefer to walk to Mountain View lookout....

Beerwah is a thriving small country town and home to Australia Zoo. Located just an hour drive north of Brisbane and a short drive from the Sunshine Coast, Beerwah is the perfect location to explore the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The Glass House Mountains, 16 ancient volcanic crags that emerge from the plains, are also just a few minutes away. Mt Beerwah is the name given to one of the eroded volcanic plugs. There are several walking tracks and some lookouts in the Glass House Mountains that offer breathtaking views of the region, so be sure to take some time to explore this area. Call into the new Visitor Information Centre at the town of Glass House Mountains on the Steve Irwin Way to pick up a local map and directions....

Have you ever wondered what a volcanic plug looks like? If so, then be sure to head to the Glass House Mountains and set off on the Mount Ngungun Summit Walking Track. Formed by volcanic activity millions of years, these ancient rocky outcrops are of special significance to the Gubbi Gubbi Aboriginal people. This 2.8 kilometre trail begins in open forest and offers great views of Mount Tibrogargan, Mount Coonowrin and Mount Beerwah from the summit. Don't forget to pack your camera as you'll find a 360 degree panoramic view of the coast and hinterland at the top! Listed as a Grade 4 walking track, you will need to have a moderate level of fitness for this track, which will take about two hours to complete. Be sure to take plenty of water, wear supportive boots and sun protection. Caution: This track passes close to cliff edges so please supervise children closely.
