Apple Tree Park at the top of the Springbrook range is the access point for many of the amazing walks in the Springbook area. The park itself is a lovely little park, with a brand new amenities building, barbecues and picnic tables. If the kids are used to the foreshore parks alone, pack the car and head up the Springbrook range for this treat. A quiet, sheltered, green green park awaits! Most days birds such as kookaburras can be found within metres of the visitors, resting on the arms of the trees. Just stop and listen to the wildlife and hear the wind whistling through the leaves. Apple Tree Park is the starting point for the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk. The walk is a 54 kilometre trek through the beautiful Springbrook rainforest. However, you can do a much smaller distance and still take in the great views and tranquility of the rainforest. Pack your walking shoes, a hat and drink bottle and enjoy! See the birds, hear them chirping, amaze at the beautiful historic trees - this spectacular location is just 29 kilometres from Mudgeeraba.

Visit Purling Brook Falls, which cascades 100 metres into a deep rainforest valley lined with palms, tree ferns and stream lilies. From Goomoolahra picnic area, walk 50 metres to another waterfall and two striking lookouts. Stroll 300 metres from the Tallanbana picnic area, just past Canyon lookout, to the top of Twin Falls; or continue on a longer walk through the canyon, passing behind waterfalls and through the different forest types. Listen for the impressive mimicking calls of the elusive Albert's lyrebird.

Take the short circuit walk to the natural arch over Cave Creek, and view the unique waterfall and cave. Enjoy a picnic and relax in cool rainforest. Join a nocturnal tour to see delicate glow-worms. (Remember a torch for the walk, but turn it off once in the cave). On summer nights, see luminous fungi and fireflies. The 600 metre walk to the lookout journeys through ancient Antarctic beech forest; a remnant link to a past cooler climate, to a view of northern New South Wales dominated by Mount Warning, which is the lava plug centre of the erosion caldera of the extinct Tweed shield volcano. The small pocket of Antarctic beech forest Nothofagus moorei is one of our remaining links with the ancient forests of Gondwana. This circuit walk is in the Natural Bridge section of Springbrook National Park. Dominating the Gold Coast's western skyline, Springbrook's cool forests and mountain streams offer views of impressive landscapes, and walks among subtropical and temperate rainforest, open eucalypt forest and montane heath. The park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. A sealed circuit track takes you through the forest, across Cave Creek and into the arched cave to witness the waterfall plunging from above. The hoop pines that emerge through the thick greenery of the surrounding rainforest are living relics of the Jurassic Age—the Age of the Conifers—about 180 million years ago. These pines are 'living dinosaurs'—they are among the most primitive of all conifers. Natural Bridge is very popular with walkers and bird lovers during the day. At night the cave comes alive with the tiny green lights of thousands of nocturnal glow-worms, and the silent wings of microbats. Glow-worms are visible year-round, their display is significantly reduced during the winter months. To protect the glow-worms and maximise visitor safety, parts of Cave Creek are a restricted access area—swimming is prohibited and penalties apply....

Spectacular waterfalls and cool ancient forests await you in the beautiful World Heritage-listed Gondwana rainforest of Springbrook National Park. On this beautiful circuit walk, in the Springbrook Plateau section of the park, pass through open eucalypt forest of New England ash, before descending into the gorge to view the falls from below. After crossing the suspension bridge a steady climb through forest brings the walker back to the picnic area. Look for ancient lepidozamias, colourful hakeas and dazzling wildflowers along the way to this stunning waterfall. There are 265 steps on this walk and it's easier to walk in a clockwise direction. For visitor safety Purling Brook Falls has a restricted access area at the top and base of the waterfall. There are sheer cliffs and waterfalls so keep to the track. If you've got time, detour on the Warringa Pool track, which leads downstream from the base of the falls; you'll add another 2 kilometres to the walk and need to allow another 40 minutes to return.
