The museum has a collection of trams from Sydney and also other Australian cities and some from overseas. Currently, on loan from the PowerHouse Museum is tram 805 which is generally on display in the Display Hall. The museum is an ideal place for grandparents to take their grandchildren and regale them with their tram-riding stories.

Trams to The Royal National Park run hourly from the museum on Sundays & most Public Holidays from 10.15am until 4.15pm and from R.N.P. 15 minutes later. On Wednesdays and extra school holiday weekdays it is hourly from 10.15am until 2.15pm; return journey 15 minutes later. Trams also run north towards Sutherland.

The Sydney Tramway Museum provides a nostalgic and educational insight into the lifestyle of Sydneysiders during the 100 year period of tramway operation from 1861 to 1961, with trams running, plus restoration works-in-progress, exhibits and photos depicting the development and operation of tramways. The Museum includes not only an extensive collection of Sydney trams from 1896 to 1952, but also trams from Brisbane, Melbourne, Ballarat, San Francisco, Nagasaki, Berlin, Munich and Milan, enabling comparisons between the different tramcar designs. A double-deck tram from Hobart and a Brill-built bogie car of 1902 from the Western Australian gold-mining city of Kalgoorlie still have to be restored. The Museum also houses Sydney's last remaining double-deck trolley-bus. A small bookshop and kiosk is open during the hours of the museum operation, selling a range of books, postcards, souvenirs and light refreshments. Picnic facilities including electric barbecues are available on the grounds.

This short walk takes you through some wonderful and diverse bushland, taking in grassy woodlands as well as saltwater and freshwater wetlands. It’s an important habitat for birds, with 100 species having been recorded. You’re likely to see kookaburras, crimson rosellas and rainbow lorikeets in the trees around you, along with black swans, white-faced herons and royal spoonbills by the water. As you wind around the lagoon, take in the view out across the lagoon – it’s amazing to think that you are just outside the city of Sydney. You may also notice small orchids, banksia flowers, long-necked turtles and blue tongue lizards along this scenic walk.
