Laboite Theatre Company Logo and Images

Laboite Theatre Company

Lvl 5, 6 - 8 Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove QLD 4059

La Boite Theatre Company is a leading Australian theatre company working out of the nation’s third largest city. It is a platform for inspired collaboration, seeking to produce and present theatre that draws on the full grammar of performance. Words, music, dance, the visual arts and contemporary performance are among the contributors to a theatre that aims to invigorate minds and emotions. We produce plays, but also create work that privileges other forms of theatrical expression. Stories can be told in many ways, and our work is driven by a desire for fresh enunciations.

We occupy Australia’s only purpose-built theatre-in-the-round, one of only a handful in the world, and embrace its distinctive possibilities. This is an epic-intimate space that calls for a theatre that celebrates the theatrical. It is an arena of inquiry and a coliseum of the senses.

We mostly create our own productions, but also seek collaborations with independent creative teams and both new and established companies from Queensland and beyond. We also present touring work. We have an appetite for new work, from both Australian and international artists, but also a taste for renovating the classic works of world drama by building surprising alliances and approaches. We aim to converse with the times - to unwrap the past and scrutinise the present as a means of expressing our aspirations for the future.

It was built by the community in 1969.   Twelfth Night Theatre stands on land donated by Majorie and Brian Johnstone.  In 1980, the Queensland Government of the time sold the theatre into private ownership and it is because of the support of the people of Brisbane that it stands today; a gracious and welcoming theatre presenting popular productions, some of which are listed on the 'Best of British Comedy' page.

Our aim is to mount 3 productions each year using Hamilton Town Hall as our home base.

The good part is, if you volunteer with us, your commitment can be as extensive or as restricted as you choose.

We are also keen to support other community organisations so if you have a fund raising idea you think we can help you with, please make contact and we’ll see what we can do!

Nash Theatre Logo and Images

Nash Theatre

P.O. Box 483, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006

In 2004 a new era - the era of N@sh - had dawned, very much a more geographically flexible era. We secured the use, courtesy of Front Row Theatre, of the Hamilton Town Hall for our second play of 2004 - Medea. Several plays were, in fact, already in rehearsal during this unsettled period, the casts and crews of which were beginning to feel distinctly gypsy-like. Nash stormed back to Fortitude Valley after an agreement was made with the Trinity Anglican church
where we performed one our biggest (and oddest?) crowd pleasers of 2004 - a production of the Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night\'s Dream. It couldn\'t compete, in crowd pleasing stakes, though, with our final production for 2004: Dan James\' "twist of lemon" take on Tarantino film Reservoir Dogs - an absolutely incredible effort from everyone involved.

All of which seems to mean our roving gamble is paying off: 2004 was, in fact, been a truly great year for N@sh - one in which we\'ve gone from place to place, and strength to strength, and back and forth to the pub. We\'ve made new friends, forged new "alliances", and broken new ground in all kinds of ways!

Nursing Museum RBH

The Lady Lamington Building is heritage listed on the Register of the National Estate, the National Trust Register and the Queensland Heritage Register. Lady Lamington, the wife of the Governor of the day laid the foundation stone on 14 September 1896. Robin S. Dodds was the architect of the original 1896 “L” shaped building. The 1896 building provided accommodation for the Head Nurse, four Charge Nurses, fifty trainee nurses and four servants. A second wing was added to the Nurses\' Home in 1914 providing a further 98 cubicles for nursing staff, mainly trainee nurses.

With the growth of the Brisbane population in the 1930s and the increasing needs of the community during the economic depression, the Brisbane and South Coast Hospital Board appointed Architectural firm, Conrad, Atkinson and Powell to develop a modern hospital on the Herston site. Similarly at this time there was a need to train more nurses to staff the new wards and services buildings. The 1931 building facing the north-east, provided an additional 105 cubicles mainly for trainee nurses bringing the total accommodation provided for nursing staff at that time to 207. This wing has four floor levels and was used as night duty accommodation for the trainees. Sitting rooms, each with a fireplace, were a feature of the two top floors.

Officially opened on 6 April, 2001 by the then Premier of Queensland, the Hon Peter Beattie MP and the Hon Robert Schwarten MP Minister for Public Works and Information and Communication Technology, Roma Street Parkland is a popular gathering place for the people of Brisbane, and has established its self as a highlight destination for interstate and overseas visitors to Brisbane.

Part of the greater Brisbane plan, the Parkland was the first in a series of projects transforming the western edge of Brisbane's Central Business District and is a vital link in the city's circle of green, encompassing the City Botanic Gardens and South Bank Parklands.

The Queensland Government's Department of Public Works manages and operates the Parkland.

Its vision is to establish the Parkland as 'a unique public open space which is a preferred destination for the leisure and recreation of all people. It will feature significant horticultural displays, events and activities.'
