Now fully restored as a public exhibition space and home for the Whitlam Institute, the building is open for the public to explore and enjoy. Saturday at the Female Orphan School

The Female Orphan School building and Margaret Whitlam Galleries will be open to the public on Saturday 19 November from 11am to 4pm. There's a lot to see and do, including free guided tours at 11:30am, 1:30pm and 2:30pm. A special lecture titled Melancholy: art, politics, and migration will be held at 2pm. Join Professor James Arvanitakis, Dr Julian Droogan and artist Khadim Ali as they discuss melancholy from an art, political and migration aspect. The talks will conclude with a panel discussion on the various perspectives of melancholy. Presented by the Art Gallery Society in collaboration with Western Sydney University. Bookings are through the website. On display in the Margaret Whitlam Galleries is the stunning new exhibition A Sense of Place: The artist Greg Hansell's record of history now. This exhibition showcases the work of Greg Hansell, one of the best known and loved artists working in the Hawkesbury region. The Whitlam Institute's exhibition, A Changing Australia: The Time of Gough Whitlam will also be open. Entry is free to the Female Orphan School and galleries.
