Built in the 1850?s, the carefully restored building has had many different uses, including time as a stable, a church, a black smith?s shop and, of course, as a station at which stage coaches on the Adelaide to Willunga route would stop and change horses. An interesting collection of historical artefacts, heritage information and photographs describing and depicting this fascinating history are now on display in the restored building. The Horndale Cellars were established in the late 1890's. Built on the hillside, the stone used for the walls of the winery were quarried on the property. Of the 310 acres of vines that once made up Horndale there remains only one and a half acres which are planted to Red Frontignac grapes, from which is made the feature wine Old Horndale Brandy Wood Frontignac Tawny Port.
