The markets will be specifically aimed at seniors with fun and games, sing a long with Bundy Flukes Ukulele group and a cent sale with free Sausage Sizzle lunch (raffle tickets for sale from 10.30-11am), and other exciting events such as motorised scooter races from 9am if there is enough interest and Seniors Zumba. Event is open to everyone, not just Seniors.....the more the merrier. There will be a free taxi running between Childers and the Creek. There will also be lots of bargains to be had, new stalls every markets, gourmet alley, live music, fantastic food from the canteen. The event supports local clubs and groups, with stalls always available. The event is on from 7am till 12.45pm. Parking will be available at the back of the markets....

Bundaberg Railway Museum

Bundaberg's first railway station, built in 1881 as an outlet for the Mt Perry railway bringing copper from the mines, is now preserved as a proper museum. Located some 500 metres from its original site, the museum houses a wide variety of railway items past and present. The museum is a haven for train buffs. It include photos, uniforms and catering items from dining rooms to the Tilt Train. Books, including office records, engine driver's manuals, timetables and rule books. Tools of various types: locomotive spanners, heavy jacks and track work tools, Interlocked signal cabin recovered from Lowmead station, the last CTC panel from Bundaberg, and modern day transponders, A 1921 guard's van (originally a sleeping car) and a butter car insulated with cow's hair which stays cool even without the ice blocks. Static displays outside include a diamond crossing for cane trams to cross the government lines and various couplings, buffers, drawhooks and air hoses used on older rolling stock....

The 2017 Childers Festival, on the last weekend in July, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30, is the only festival in Queensland that stops a highway, closing the mighty Bruce Highway! The festival transforms the highway into a gigantic food, market stall and entertainment hub, all staged between the heritage listed buildings and leopard tree lined streets of Childers, just 40 minutes west of Bundaberg and three and a half hours north of Brisbane. With free admission both days, the event kicks off on the Saturday afternoon from 2pm with a street party and lively bands performing well into the night. The main festival day, which closes the Bruce Highway is on the Sunday, kicking off from 9am to 3.30pm and features five stages of non-stop music, hundreds of market stalls and a smorgasbord of food from all over the world....

There is something for everyone at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. Situated in North Bundaberg on Mount Perry Road, the gardens span 27 hectares of land and feature a magnificent lake which is home to 114 species of birds. Take a walk on the paths to discover the hidden Japanese Gardens and the spectacular temple in the Chinese Gardens. The Bundaberg Botanic Gardens also play home to the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, Hinkler House, Cafe 1928, The Bundaberg and District Historical Museum and the nearby Bundaberg Railway Museum (small costs for entry). On Sundays the Australian Sugarcane Railway offer steam train runs along the 2 kilometre train track through the gardens (available for a very small fee). You can purchase duck food from Cafe 1928 to entice the birdlife closer for fantastic photo opportunities. Take a picnic rug and your own food as the Botanic Gardens are the perfect spot for a picnic or organise some food from Cafe 1928. ...
